I was recently watching ghost in the shell. they also used the term "gynoid". in that case they appeared similar to geishas, approx. 12 yrs old. the good part was when they went to "locus solus" - amazing 3D animations IMVHO.

A gynoid is a female android :) , Futura was the name of the robot in "Metropolis" by Fritz Lang
