THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Is there a fix yet for Imports coming in black problem

Is there a fix for this bug yet. Every time I bring a model I've made in another programme into Bryce its coming in black without the textures. I've had to go back to using version 5.5 as 6.1 is useless like this and 5.5  brings everything in perfect. I’ve been away for a while and thought I may have missed the fix.

cheers

It's not been addressed by official response yet save for some complicated work-around or mtl file rewrite.
I too find it easier to import into an earlier Bryce version and 'save as' a scene in that version and then reopen in 6.1. It's a pain but it works.

when Bryce can not find the textures to your imported model(s) it will give them a black texture look..  I just highlight the model and put on a grey one...  When you import straight from Studio all textures are added to the import...  But not from Poser...  you have to find all the textures and point them out to the import program your self...

If you are getting black models from plain imported OBJ files or 3ds files, it has to be because the textures that came with the model are not being found..

hi

thanks for the replies.

The problem I seem to be having  is with models I've made.

For instance one  made in sketchup.  The strange thing is when I import it into Bryce 5.5 it finds all the texture with no problem  but 6.1 doesn’t so I feel it must be something that’s changed on the importer in 6.1 and how it looks for textures.

The problem is that (for me) imports that have no image textures have the Diffuse Amount set to .5 (very close to black) in B6. Since the .OBJ format doesn't support a Diffuse Amount parameter most apps (including older versions of Bryce) simple set it to 80 to 100. For some reason B6.1 doesn't do this anymore with solid color textures. I import .OBJ's into the Intergrated DAZ Studio which brings them back to Bryce at 100% Diffuse but require re-smoothing for sharp edged objects (D|S resmooths imports). B6.1 exports also adds an odd hack to the .MTL file - Bryce now reads comment lines (lines that begin with #) for certain info like the diffuse amount. So you can also open the .MTL and after each "newmtl" line add this line " #dif_amt 1.000000" (without quotes). This sets the Bryce diffuse amount to 100. RE: newmtl acmat_0 #dif_amt 1.000000 Kd 1 1 1 etc. HTH; Dan

I'm having the same sort of problem off and on. Sometimes you get no textures at all and Bryce 6 doesn't even ask where they are. Sometimes the textures are loaded but the model comes in black or gray anyway. I click on an individual mesh and check materials and the texture is there. If I leave things alone it's still gray or black. If I change any setting by a fraction suddenly the texture is applied and shows up.

I never used studio but exported poser obj files. When I did this in Bryce 4, 5, 5.5 I would open just the object in a blank scene. It was much easier to ungroup thte object and go through the materials withou other scene objects getting in the way. I used to group at the end then select and copy the figure. If I kept Bryce open I used to be able to open my main scene and paste the figure into it. Bryce 6 clears something so I can no longer paste. There is nothing there to paste anymore.
