Subject: Restoring a saved poser scene?

Rynn ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2007 at 6:53 AM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 12:45 PM

Hello everyone,
I'm at the moment very disappointed, angry (at myself for not saving this in two seperate poser5 files) and sad at the same time. Since the last few weeks I have been working on creating my own Lara Croft for V4.1 by using a mix of Alice and V4 morphs. I have put many many hours in this project and had finaly come to a point where I was happy with my creation. Today I had posed her, put hair and boots on her (the rest of her clothing I want to model myself in hexagon) and well, basicaly she was ready to render. Then all of a sudden poser 5 decided to crash and I have done everything I could think of but my file seems to be corrupted. If I open it there is nothing there anymore. :(
I'm hoping someone knows a way to restore the file. I'm afraid it will turn out eventually to a point where I will have to work again for weeks to get to the same step I was at today before the crash. And I doubt I can ever recreate her the way I had done, I turned to many dials to remember exactly which ones I used and what value I had them at.
So if anyone knows a way, please let me know, I would be so grateful.

by the way i use poser 5 and had only saved her in the poser 5 file since I was still turning dials to change her every day.

Alrighty, I already have an update.
I checked the file in my explorer and saw that it still had the same size as before, so all info still had to be in there.
I opened the corrupt file in notepad and made a copy of it (see, i did learn something out of this). After some sorting out I think I might have found where the info of the dials is. It will take a lot of time I think to sort through it all and end up with just a list of all the dials I have to turn and what value they need to be at. But if i have indeed found this information then this means I should be able to recreate my Lara morph. Let's hope this works out.

If anyone has some valuable information for me then it still welcome.

If it isn't too badly damaged, then a specialised editor like CR2 Editor may be a better bet since you can see the structure more easily. You could try saving another PZ3 with similar figures in it (although without the dial settings) and see where the differences lie.

Thanks a bunch for this information. I found all the values of the body morph dials, and have recreated her body in the mean time. I still got to find the head values though so I'm going to try the CR2 editor you suggested. :)

Best of luck. It will be hard work, no matter how you go about it. :( One advantage of CR2 Editor is that you can have two files open side-by-side, which makes it easy to see the differences if they're fundamentally similar; hence my advice about saving a reference PZ3.

Woohoo! I did it, 9 hours of work, but I did it. I got all my dial values and recreated my morph. I even couldn't help myself and changed a bit again already, lol. I might post a render of my wip if I manage to make one this time. :)
Thanks for the help!

o.k., good to know ya got it fixed. keep us posted on the new character. as an aside, leopard (and possibly some versions of vista) will have a function called "time machine" or similar, in which earlier versions of files can be retrieved or recovered.
