I seem to recall there being some tutorials about the probe light node by someone (Relik, I think? ) over at RDNA. He goes into a lot of detail on what the various paramteres of the probelight node do, and what they mean.

In a nutshell, each of the various settings marked 'value'  refers to a different direction the light can come from - the 'value' in question is the RGB value of light from that direction. What you need to do - and I recommend finding those tutorials to check which value you need to change it to - is to turn of the 'light' coming from the bottom, and find the setting which controls 'light' from the left. you don't actually need to rotate anything at all.

I don't think that's the way you want to go. Even if you manage to figure out how to configure the probe light node (good luck) it won't give you realistic results. Plus, what about any other objects such as the floor or a figure. Plus, where are you shadows? Nowhere.

Much better is to use a setup like this. I put a spot light in position with each light panel. The panels and wall do not cast shadows. Each light has a cone from 50 to 160 degrees.

I used raytraced shadows on them, with 5 pixel blur.

Note I hid the wall here so you could see the spotlights.

Render coming next.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Here's the render. Click to see full size. Notice how the specular reflections look right, and so do the shadows.

For more realism, use more lights - perhaps three for each panel.

Here's another render. I put some blurred reflection on the ball instead of a specular effect, to show the actual light panels instead of reflections from the spot lights.

From this angle it's kind of obvious that the spot lights are only in a low position. It would be better with 10 lights, where each panel has two, high and low.
