Things in B6 that are not in B5.5:
Er... can't remember if there's anything else.
disadvantages: imported objects are black - totally black.
However, you can have B5.5 AND B6 available on the same PC and even open at the same time. And if you import an object into B5.5 - save it to a preset folder, then copy the folder to the B6 presets and open it in B6 then the colours are there - but as I import stuff to Bryce in order to immediately change the materials I don't have the time to faff about with that.
Easier to select entire object, and slap grey onto it...

In B5.5 these same objects that I'd gone to such immense trouble to add material colours to in Wings3D - arrived with colours on each different zone.
Like this: (see image above)
B6 = black
B5.5 = coloured

I see..maybe I won't have the problem since I don't do that stuff on my own..I admire those who do their own modeling but I haven't gotten that far yet. I don't use wings3d and the only importing I've done so far is from D/S...
I know that has to be a problem..maybe it will get fixed soon with a patch or something.

Me too... seeing on how I do my modeling in 3D Max (version 5) before I put them to use in Bryce.
Now I am really scared. :scared:

Boy, I really wish I had 3Ds Max. Have you been using it long?

Since 2002, when I was a college student in Multimedia Design Course at a 2 yr college. Had 3 semesters of 3D artwork in MAX... Believe me, I don't want to go thru that again... Had no imagination then, have none now... But the professor took pity on me and passed me with an A+ () I love the animation part ... so I went a little wacky over that ... What you see on my portfolio website is what I did as coursework. 2D work in Photoshop was my mainstay as I use it a lot in my chosen career (web development) 3D is just my little hobby baby... I fell in love with 3D way before pc or mac became the vogue...:wub: back in the early 80's when I first saw "Tron" and brought 2 VHS tape collection of 3D animations
But to get back to your question.... And finish answering it... I'm still at version 5... Can't afford the upgrade. Got it on a student discount and scholarship...

6.1 also adds multi core support for rendering. If you have a multi core machine this can greatly speed up renders. 6.1 also adds Random Replicate which dups a selected object's position (within a bounding box), size and rotation. I agree with Fran that you should keep 5.5 for imports and in case you want to load anything pre Bryce 5 (scenes, presets, etc.) which often load incorrectly in B6.
DaM, Oh, you meant Bryce... for a minute there...
**dan whiteside,
**Yeah, I forgot about the rendering thing.
I have heard multi-replicate mentioned here and there, not sure how it works, or what you'd use it for, and I didn't realise it only came in with B6.1

Ok... So color me skeptical... What is missing? And ...
Well the real question is:
(Drumroll, please)
Should I invest my hard earned sweat stained dollars to upgrade from 5.5 to 6.1?
