Subject: Vegitation Question???

admin2 ( ) posted Sun, 09 December 2007 at 9:11 AM · edited Sun, 17 November 2024 at 11:29 PM

Some people's vegitation that I see here on renderosity look like they are custom made. When I say that I mean, it does not look like they just modified the plants that came with vue. It looks like they made them some other way. Is there a program that can start from scratch and make vegitation that vue can use. Vue can only modifie other vegitation it can not start from scratch right? If there is a program that can make vegitation vue can use then what is it? I hope you guys can help. For example this Woodland Synthesis and AcerOminous at http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=59848 They look like they could have never been made just modifying vue's plant's. Am I right?

The product you link to is not a Vue vegtation file, it is a 3d mesh created in another app, imported into Vue using one of the import formats Vue can read, and then saved as a Vue object ( the .vob format).
Vue vegetation files have the .veg extention, and they cannot be made from scratch, only based on existing Vue plants.
Only .veg files are solidgrowth, which means only them have an inbedded randomness when loaded into Vue ( there is always something different in the shape/colour of veg files), and the wind effect can only be applied to veg files.
vob files are 3d objects saved in the Vue file format for 3d meshes. They always load the same, there is no randomness, and wind doesn't work on them. If used in an ecosystem, variations in size. overall colour and orientation can be applied, but the shape always remains exactly the same.

Thanks I thought that the woodland synthesis was vegitation.

As for applications...

You have X-Frog,
Onyx Tree,
Tree Druid, just to name 3

Those make vegitation in .veg format?

No, .veg files can only be created using Vue's plant editor. The apps Paul mentioned create 3d objects you can import in Vue.

There is an open source (free) Xfrog lookalike, called ngplant. Google it.

There's also the Ivy Generator http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/. It's free, it grows ivy around an OBJ mesh. It's also a bit addictive.

I have gotten Ivy generator but I can not figure out how it works. Plus I can not see all the buttons on it since my computer monitor is a 19 inch one and the program does not resize of my screen. I  will go see what ngplant is like. If you guys know any other programs could you please tell me. Thanks
