Subject: Help Needed - Dynamic Clothes

I am new to Poser and have to use it for a project I am working on. I went to the Marketplace and found Dynamic Clothes but don't really understand what they are and  how they differ from Conforming clothes. 

Do the poses come with the clothes ? Since my understanding is they are made for only certain poses. If I purchased them, would I be able to apply any reasonable pose I wanted to the figure and the clothing would fit?

Also what needs do Dynamic Clothes full that Conforming ones don't?

  • Are Dynamic clothes better than conforming ones?

Dynamic clothing are "props" that you need to run a cloth simulation for in the cloth room.

Conforming clothing has a limited ability to pose with the figure. It all depends on whether there are morph dials that you can adjust to fit the clothing and also to pose the clothing IE: body handles to help adjust a skirt or flared sleeve.  However, in all cases it's pretty difficult to get a conforming skirt or dress or jacket to fit around a figure's leg that is not in line with it's body IE: a pose with the leg out front or behind, or to the side, or even sitting and kneeling.

Dynamic clothing on the other hand while it has a bit of a learning curve to use, looks way more natural because the cloth room simulation simulates the clothing having moved with the figure's movement so you get a drapier more natural look to the clothing. You can also do some amazing poses such as kneeling and having the skirt flare out around the figure, something you could never accomplish with a conforming skirt.

There are also "hybrid" type outfits were part of it like the top is conforming and the skirt is dynamic so you have the best of both worlds. Hybrids also need to be run through the cloth room.

Dynamic clothing is my favourite type of clothing to use because it looks so natural with the figure's pose.

So far as which one is better? It all depends on what you want to achieve. So far as looking more natural and not stiff and "posed", then Dynamic is by far the best.

It's also possible to make conforming clothing into dynamic clothing:

And it's possible to take a conforming outfit and work with it in the cloth room so that parts of it (IE: skirt)  act dynamic.  It might even work with some of the outfits that  you have because I've done this with not only the Morphing Fantasy Dress that is described in the thread, but also some other dresses and skirts too.

Dynamic clothing items have to be posed on the character inside the clothroom inside Poser, using simulations.

Conforming clothes have sort of a 'snap to' property so they instantly fit the character.

Conforming clothes are easier to work with, and are easier to create, but dynamics, altho take longer to create and use, usually have a better final outcome..and look more realistic.

You might want to check out some free dynamic clothing and conforming items in our freestuff to get the hang of it before you purchase any.

Some dynamic clothing items are for certain characters, so should follow that characters pose.

To answer your first question last, they can be better, but not always. It depends on what you are doing with the clothing.  Conforming clothes are easier to work with for some poses as they follow the figure's pose, but skirts don't sit or kneel well.  The conforming clothing also doesn't lay as realisticly. It does cling better if you want a clingy or skin tight look.

The dynamic clothing doesn't need certain poses nor do poses come with it. You use the cloth room.

I've only been using dynamic clothing myself for a short time so I am no expert but here is a quick idea of what to do

  1. load your figure
  2. move the animation marker to frame 5
  3. pose your figure
  4. go back to frame 1
  5. load your dynamic clothing
  6. parent it to the figure (look under object menu)-this can be optional
  7. make sure there isn't any skin poking through the clothing. repose or resize the figure if needed in fram 1
  8. go to cloth room
  9. click on new simulation
  10. name the simulation and click ok
  11. click on clothify
  12. in pop up window select the chothing and click clothify
  13. click on colide against
  14. click add/remove
  15. use check boxes to select anything the cloth might contact but you don't want it to pass through
  16. click ok
  17. click calculate simulation
  18. take a quick nap...maybe
    if you reposition the figure you with need to recalculate

That should read 'conforming' not dynamic, and the 'some' needs to go...guh....:rolleyes: :laugh:
