Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 09 11:21 pm)
Hi Chris,
Using the same map multiple times should not affect memory usage.
But .............. Let's find out if it does ...
Here's an easy way to check ...
Load a scene with multiple copies of the same object (sidewalk) with a texmap used on 1 object only.
Save the scene as "Test1.pz3"
Now apply the same texmap to the other objects. so that multiple copies of the texmap are used in the scene and then ...
Save the scene as "Test2.pz3"
Now compare the size of the Test1 and Test2 files ... are they the same or is Test2 larger?
cheers,
dr geep

I didn't realise textures were stored in the pz3 file. I though it was just path and filename which would be entered for every material that used a texture no matter how many repeats. In which case any difference would depend on the length of the path/filenames.

I'm working on a fairly large cityscape scene and have arranged my obj layout so that multiple like sections of sidewalk, streets and curb are superimposed on top of each other so that they can untilize the same map. In other words 8 seperate sidewalk sections would refer to the same texture map. Under such configurations is Poser going to see that as a single map with the memory requirements of 1 map or is it going to be loaded 8 times with the memory requirements of 8 seperate maps?.
I have been working with tiling textures and have just not been happy with them for anything in the foreground. Midscene and back, tiling is fine
