Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 22 10:18 pm)
File and "Open" will open the .pz3 file for you :)
You can store your .pz3 files anywhere you want, even on an external hard drive. Just simply using the browse feature in the "open" window to locate it.
Be prepared to wait while it opens though. Sometimes depending on how large the .pz3 file is it can take a few minutes to open.

a pz3 is a saved poser scene file, all you need to do is launch Poser, go to File --> Open -->{browse to file location}
You can store the pz3 file anywhere on your computer that you wish.

FILE - OPEN, not FILE- IMPORT ........Duh. !!!
I need to poke around more before asking questions, but I am usually away from P7 and sitting at my office!
Thanks

I know but it is a horrible manual, the P7 reference guide is not much better. But you know this from a long time ago when you were a newbie.... ;-)

I down loaded a pz3 'light setting' file. I want to put it in a library file. I tried putting it in the libraries 'ligfht file, but it doesn't show up.on the listing. What am I doing wrong? I tried Dr Geep's for a "where the files go listing" but I couldn't find it on the site,. I'm sure it's there, but I can't find it.
Can any body hep a dummy?
You won't be able to put it in the libraries. A pz3 file is a poser scene so you'll have to load it from the file -> open or file -> merge menus.
You can put the pz3 pretty much anywhere so long as you remember where you put it

If it is one of your .pz3s that you created, then File->Open would be fine, as it should open in the interface state that you use.
If it is a .pz3 created by someone else, then I would File->Import Poser Document/Prop otherwise the display will change to the settings of whoever saved it. For example, I run my screen @ 1920x1200, if you open a .pz3 from me I've a pretty good feeling it would probably mess up your Poser display, however, if you were to import it, it would be made to fit to your settings. At least that's my experience of 3rd party .pz3 files.
If you want to load the scene from your library to be able to add it to an open scene, another approach is to just parent everything, (figures, props, lights, whatever you want in the scene) to an invisible or null figure. This null figure can then be saved to, and reloaded from, the Character library with all the stuff attached. (Also allows the normal benefits of parenting such as being able to move the whole room at once.)
If there is a ton of stuff to parent, it's faster to drag-&-drop them in the Hierarchy Editor window.
...also, one of the smart guys here recently posted a mini-tute on using a pz2 file to load a pz3. Got it bookmarked somewhere, so if that sounds more like what you were wanting to do, ask and we'll find it again. This works similar to FILE>IMPORT, just done from a library so you don't have to remember the path to the scene.

& here's that thread by albertdelfosse in which LostinSpaceman gives some simple code for using a .pp2 to load a pz3:http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=3268129&ebot_calc_page#message_3268129

sorry about this:
I have a .pz3 file , it's a set ( a room with some tables chairs, walls, floor, etc.) that I want to use for a scene ( in Poser7)
How do I load it in?
The FILE - IMPORT method does not seem to offer me the right option.
Should I place the .pz3 in the library? If so, what should the path under RUNTIME be?
Thanks
