Subject: Importing Poser to Bryce 6.1

How do I import a character from Poser7 into Bryce 6.1 without loosing the color of hair and clothes and so on?

Thank you

There should be a setting in the exporting menu that will let you export the obj and mtl files...

mtl files carry all the textures...

I do it by saving the Poser file in it's native format (.PZx) and then from Bryce load DAZ Studio through the Bryce/D|S bridge. Import the Poser file in D|S and then back to Bryce (Quit D|S). This usually loads just about everything but the textures still require some tweaking.

But make sure you are happy with the pose. Once you've got it into Bryce and broken the connection that's it!

You can get DAZ/Studio for free from the DAZ site. You should have installed it when you installed Bryce 6.1

To do it from Poser's a bit more of a trick.

First - You do your work in Poser. Then File, Export, Object, select your figure from out of the list (I usually uncheck everything, then check the figure). This creates a object you can put into Bryce.

Once in Bryce, it's File, Import, Object. That gets it in there.

Now, the fun begins. Dynamic hair, clothes, etc., mostly don't transfer...so you may have to use an older clothes or hair (you can try it, and see what comes over).

2nd - once you have the object transferred over, you're left with (often)...a gray statue. That's because the texture files have to be specified. You can do this, but pointing to the Textures file folders for each requested by Bryce. Some things may not transfer, though.

The 'eyeball problem'. I don't know if they've fixed this in later versions, but the eyeballs can import as gray. If this happens, ctrl+mouse click on the eyeball, and select the outer eyeball (may not be apparent, so you may have some more experimenting to do). Go to Materials, then Glass, then select the most transparent glass, and texture the eyeball with that.

You can try using Bryce textures for ones that don't 'come through', but the difference is obvious. My gallery is filled with dozens of horrid examples...;)

There may still be a utility in Freebies called 'grouper', that will allow you to 'tie together' all the textures for an object to export it to Bryce. But Daz Studio is a free download from Daz 3d, so you can go either way.

Sounds a little bit to much for me, I will stick witht the 2-D object option.

Thank you all for your help!

you're welcome. You know, you can always go in the other direction.
Create a landscape or backdrop in Bryce, save Image As, then in Poser; File, Import, Background. Just make sure you match the lighting colors and directions in both Bryce and Poser, and they blend much more easily.

Doc Geep has a good tutorial for backgrounds at Poser University. Check it out...

A method that I use to transfer Poser files to Bryce is to save the figure or scene as a wavefront .obj file in a separate folder, appropriately labeled.  In that folder, I also place a copy of all the the texture files needed for the figure, its clothing, etc.  Then I go to Bryce and import the .obj.  It will normally transmit everything with the textures included in the Bryce image.  The only problem is that .obj files don't tranfer alpha or transparencies, so I usually have to ungroup the figure and import the tran files into Bryce via "Leo"  and save as a Bryce material file.  These means that eyelashes, brows, and hair have to be turned into Bryce mat. files; also any clothing transparencies.  This method is a bit cumbersome, but it works in all versions of Bryce and Poser in any combination you wish.   I don't especially like DS and still do it this way despite bridges and all that other stuff.
