Subject: How do I import ecosystems into Vue 6 Inf?

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 9:20 AM · edited Thu, 08 August 2024 at 7:12 PM

I am new to Vue though I've owned it since 4, have not messed with it at all. Bought some stuff at Daz and would like to try them out. Looked for tutorials on it, but I think it's assumed that most folks know how to do this, can't find anything on it. I put the files into the Vue folder, but they need to be put in the program folder so I can use them. Am I clear as mud here? In other words so I can pick them out instead of importing them everytime.

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 9:23 AM

Ack never mind my last search turned up an excellent tutorial on it.

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 9:30 AM

Guess I don't get it. Got the other stuff loaded but not the ecosystems, only the one's that came with Vue show up. Can someone give me a hand with using the one's I've bought? Nothing in the readme, guess they figure we all know how to do it.
Thanks

Hmmm... mud can at least flow a bit, but I don't really see what you want to get to.
If you bought stuff at Daz, first thing to know is: which format? Daz installers can install Poser and D/S stuff and some items install for Vue as well. If you run the installer for Vue, items will be placed in the folder you see using the installer, typically my documents/e-on software/vue 6 xxx/ objects/....
They follow the cornucopia3d scheme for installing stuff, like objects/outdoors/fencing and such.
If there are some ecosystems already made by the item's creator, you will find them in materials/ ecosystems/...
If the stuff you bought is Poser or D/S, you first need to load the items in those apps, and export.
In Vue, import the item and save it as a .vob (vue object format).

No was a product for Vue but only unzipped no install. Put the folders in the Vue folders and was able to find some but the ecosystems are what I'm having a problem with. Yes it was bought at Daz. Found the info on a wiki screen but it's really unclear. I have a lot of work ahead of me...lol
Thanks for the help, going to get the info together and start learning.

I think you start best with the beginner tutorials at geekatplay. Step by step, and discover ecosystem later. 😉

Yup found them and planned on doing that. Just wanted to test this stuff because it was on sale and wanted to make sure it was good before the time was up to return it if I wasn't happy with it.   8^)

bruno021 ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 10:13 AM

Remember that ecosystems are materials, so place them inside your materials directory, ecosystem sub directory.

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 10:28 AM

Yup they are in the right place but Vue just isn't recognizing them as being there. Think they are going back.

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 10:41 AM

What version of Vue are you using?

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 11:15 AM

Vue 6 Infinate. Found out why they aren't working, they are Bryce 6.1 mats...do they work in Vue? This is what he sold as a Vue product.

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 11:33 AM

They are listed at Daz under what you get as all Vue files, yet they are all Bryce files and lots are missing. That's why they aren't working and why I can't find them when I try to use them.

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 11:51 AM

Color me stupid - I just noticed you had what you were using in the heading title :blushing:

If you want to keep the Bryce mats then you could render them on a huge cube, making sure when you render the cube occupies the whole screen.  Of course if it's a glass or water mat - these will need tweaking in Vue.  I've used this technique before with Bryce & Carrara mats.

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 11:52 AM

I am a tad upset that the files are missing and none of it is for Vue. What I got and what they say you are supposed to get in the ad for it are totally different. Don't think I should have to tweak it, he needs to repackage it with the correct files. Thanks for your help though.

I would definitely return them!  Good luck with that.

Mazak ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 12:31 PM

If Daz say that Bryce materials are also work for Vue that is really a rip-off. Return them point.

Please tell us what you bought at DAZ.  Is it one of Martin Frosts products?  They are excellent and work fine in Vue.  Mat is both the extension for Bryce and Vue materials, so you do need to be careful and not mix them up.

Place the materials in C:My Documentse-on softwareVue 6 InfiniteMaterials.  The plants go in C:e-on softwareVue 6 InfinitePlants.

Also, it doesnt matter WHO is the Author/Artist/Creator - if its a packaging problem, its on DAZ'S side, NOT the artist's.  Daz takes the packages the creators send them and repack them into handy little .exe files.

It leads to a bunch of problems if they are in a hurry, and Ive seen more than one example of this happening lately. - Kleo Dread Falls expansion by Surreality comes to mind right off hand - they bundled in the AMU dragonfly outfit with it instead of what was supposed to be there.

So, what im saying is, it is ENTIRELY possible your files are missing something, or you got the wrong items.  ALSO, it could just be they landed in the wrong spots.

If you can find them via my documents -- e-on software --- vue 6 inf --- materials... they ARE there, but Vue isn't seeing them yet.  Here's how to open up Vue's eyes to "new possibilities" - i.e. --- new content!....

in VUE, open up your materials by double-clicking on material preview window.  at the bottom left hand side are some tiny buttons... hover mouse over them to find the one that says "add collection" - click it.  surf to the NEW material folder(s) and add it in.  now, you can use your new toys!

Unlike Poser, Vue doesnt automatically update its library when you install stuff.  This is true for objects, atmospheres, plants, etc.  If you stick the items in a folder that Vue already knows about, it sees them - but if Vue hasnt been told to "SEE" a folder named "MidnightMoonDesigns" for example, its not gonna show up in your list, nor is anything in the folder.

Actually is a zip file and I can find some of the stuff and although the mats are labled as bryce mats I can use them, and I can use the .veg files, but there are files missing that they list in the ad that are missing. This isn't an exe file it's a zip, so don't know if Daz is at fault here. Going to call today and see if they can get me the correct files, if not they go back. Thanks for the input.

bruno021 ( ) posted Mon, 01 December 2008 at 5:41 AM

Marque, what is the product you bought? Would be easier to help if we knew what it is.

melikia ( ) posted Mon, 01 December 2008 at 1:46 PM

Marque - try resetting that download at Daz and trying again, see if you download something different, or if there's been changes made in the zip files.  if not, then support ticket at Daz - well, you get the picture =D  or you would... if your files were working ;)

Also, i found that after contacting Daz about their "oopsies" - contacting the vendor and talking with them helps as well, as they can put a bit more pressure on Daz to correct the problem.

Good luck, and i, too, am curious which product it is, as there's only a few at Daz that are labeled for Vue, and I've been eyeballing them =D

What I find strane here, is everything I buy at Daz comes with an installer, never a zip...

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Mon, 01 December 2008 at 2:34 PM

Forgotten Places from DAZ downloaded as a zip file.  There is a text file in the readme folder - all the files are there.

Still does not help with the orginal questions - what did you buy from DAZ?

Forgotten Places.

Marque ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2008 at 11:12 AM

Going to redownload later today and see if I get all the files listed.
Thanks

Did you put them in a new folder? Sometiems I have to explicitly add a new folder as a new collection inside the Material browser, even though the parent directory is already listed in the Browser.
