How about your antivirus and firewall setup?
P6 didn't get along with ZoneAlarm at one point. The symptoms
were similar to what you describe.

If you are using Vista, did you try installing it with Admin outside of the Programs folder?
Do you have an nVidia Graphics Card?
Did you try the nVidia Control Panel and changing Global SettingsThreaded Optimization to "On" instead of "Auto"???
Have you tried using SreeD Display instead of OpenGL Display?
What figure are you using? is it V4?
Have you tried the shipped P6 Figures that you get with poser 6?
As PhilC , did you install P6 SR3?

My apologies guys. I should have mentioned what operating system I was using. I am using WIN XP Home Edition.
WOW the incredible PHIL C answered a post. Feeling kinda special. LOL Did install as administrator. Did install all updates, the company suggested that.
My video card is Intel Extreme Graphics, i think.
My virus protection is AVAST.
Yes, actually the problems started when delete default figure (James) and loading Jessie.
I am going to Re install, one more time and try again.
Thank you so much for all of your time.

Please spay and neuter your pets. Strongly consider shelter
adoption before spending $500 to $1000. If you MUST part with that
kind of money for a pet, go to your local shelter, donate the money
to them and pickup a highly adoptable pet. The shelters could sure
use the donation.
Not so much incredible as inedible or maybe indelible :)
Does it crash if you just select James and use the menu Fugue > Delete figure ?
If you are OK at that point go to Edit > General preferences and set the current state to be your default state, and opt to load to that state. Close Poser. Now when you open Poser you'll start with an empty scene.

How can I tell if I have a video card installed?
If so how do I tell which one?
Is a video card required to run P6?
Time is grealty appreciated!

Is a great free utility to see what installed in your system.
Most computers today come with an onboard graphics chip that will allow you se see 3d graphic, but they work slowly, and use your system ram for thier display, reducing your resources.
Onboard video is pretty much junk when you consider how fast a system can run with a video card, and you don;t need to byuiy the best to massivly improve performance compared to build in video.

P6 should work fine on XP Home - as long as the graphics card supports OpenGL. That's where your problem comes in, most likely. Intel Extreme Graphics chips - older than 2 years - do not supoort OpenGL 2.0. With a bit of luck they do OpenGL 1.1,
If you're on a laptop - out of luck. You can't upgrade the graphics card.
If you're on a desktop, you can add a graphics card. If the machine is older (3 years or more) chances are that your graphics expansion slot is an AGP slot - and AGP graphics cards are pretty hard to come by these days. Furthermore, they're also more expensive than their PCI Express counterparts.
But if you have a PCI Express slot for graphics, you can easily upgrade. I'd advise an nVidia 8500GT based graphics card - fast enough for Poser work, good OpenGL 2.0 support, and quite affordable (think $70 or thereabouts).
ATI cards may seem to offer great value for money, but that is only true for games. ATI consumer cards still have pretty lousy OpenGL support, a problem you won't encounter with nVidia graphics cards. ATI hardware is fine, it's the drivers that are lacking.
And if you want to keep the option of running Linux graphics apps, you're better off with nVidia too.

Funny.. guess my ati cards the last few years don't work in lightwave, Vue, carerra, modo, and poser.. Oh, WAIT! Yeah they DO! And this last summer Nvidia drivers were causing all sorts of opengl issues with various applications.
Seriously, it doesn't really matter if you get nvidia or ati.. both will perform fine. I have owned both brands, and both havbe thier shares of issues and advantages.
Sometimes nvidia is the best value, sometimes ati is. Currenty ati offers the best bag for the buck under $200.

Maybe the nVidia/ATI story is different under Vista. I run XP 64 bit, so I can only use nVidia.

The 64 bit drivers are the same between xp 64 and vista 64, at least for ati. I havn't had an nvidia card since I upgraded to vista 64, so I couldn;t tell you if they had different srivers for vista or xp.
I can say though that my ati cards here have been running great with opengl 2.0 for about 2-3 years. Only issue was a few bad driver releases about a year and a half ago, but rolling back to a previous release resolved those issues.

Last 2-3 years, eh? So that was after AMD took over ATI. And since AMD has a vested interest in 64 bit computing, ATI couldn't get away anymore with supporing only Win32/DirectX... Maybe they even support Linux now?

What has that got to do with the quality of the video cards or 64 bit drivers?
Loyalty to any brand will byte you in the ass sooner or later.
I've owned nvidia, voodoo, ati, and god knows what else over the years.. and I purchase the best deal currently available based on hardware evaluations, and pricepoint. I actually was looking to urchase nan nvidia card this last time around, just to mix things up a bit, but when the next closest performer to my current ati card is over $100 more, with no performance gain at all, and that $100 more only buys me a brand name, it's no t worth it. the ONLY reason I was going to go nvidia, is the warranties are better then ati, but instead I nended up with a visiontek ati card, which has an equel warrnty to nvidia, gave me the ati price/performance I wanted, and gave me a card that also overclocks almost to it's max, and still runs cool.

I had the same problem as you ViperKilzz, I had a horrible piece of crap Emachines computer with XP home, 256 MB of ram and a 32MB S3 Unichrome Graphics (which is basically the same as your Intel Extreme). Poser 6 did the same thing to me, anyting i did would cause it to crash instantly. It was so frustrating i just went back to Poser 5. It's more than likely that your Intel Extreme Graphics is causing your problem and/or it could also be a lack of memory. It also helps to have the most recent service release. The version of Poser 6 i had was the sr2, I downloaded the sr3 and it made the problem worse. The problem wasn't the service release it was that graphics card for the lack of a better term. There not really graphics cards, there on the motherboard of low-end computers, they only give you limited abilities. Those on board graphics systems really stink it up. If your computer inclined you can get rid of it from your computer by adding a cheap graphics card and disableing the on board graphics from the device manager of XP (be sure you know what your doing). If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself you can take it to any computer shop or even geek squad at Best Buy can do it for you. You can find the older cards really cheap just make sure it as at least OpenGL 2.0 or better. Now i have a new computer and am running Poser 6 with the sr3 on Vista with 2 GB of ram and i dare say it is the most stable program i have (knocks on wood). You might have to spend about a hundred bucks get it working properly ViperKilzz but don't give up on it, it is a great program.

Greetings, All knowing One's
I recently posted re: Input on Purchasing P6 at a great price $30 from CP. Well I went a head and bought it. Much to my regret. I am filling out a letter of destruction,, so I can get my money back. Before I do that I was gong to give a last ditch effort to see if I can avoid this. This is what happened:
When loading , it loads fine. As soon as I start to move around in the program, it closes with no warning. I've worked closely with the company to try to resolve this issue, to no avail. These are the thins I tried.
Did a massive spring cleaning, making sure it was not a space issue. (Even uninstalled my P5, losing a lot of content. That's OK, my library was way out of control. I had terrible organization, had things I didn't need or use. So I'm reinstalled and am in the process of getting what content I need and organizing it properly)
I updated my video card, I think.
Updated my system in general.
I was just wondering if someone had come across this problem and perhaps had any suggestions. I'm really upset because I feel that I finally have a good handle on how to use this program,( well, still gotta get that dynamic hair thing down) LOL.
As i said, just a last ditch attempt before give my rights up to the program.
Thank in advance,
Viper
