Subject: Magnets

ViperKilzz ( ) posted Mon, 02 February 2009 at 2:19 PM · edited Tue, 30 July 2024 at 8:45 AM

Greetings All,

I have a piece of clothing that does not fit when adding a particular character body morph.
I think that I'm supposed to use a magent to stretch that peice of clothing over the body morph.
Can someone perhaps direct me to a tutorial that can teach me how to create and use a magnet to make this shirt fit over the morphed breast?

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Please spay and neuter your pets. Strongly consider shelter adoption before spending $500 to $1000. If you MUST part with that kind of money for a pet, go to your local shelter, donate the money to them and pickup a highly adoptable pet. The shelters could sure use the donation.

The most important point in in using a magnet on a breast (or any other part) is getting the Mag Zone positioned and scaled correctly. Usually the centre of the Mag Zone needs to be about level with the front surface of the breast, and entered on it side-side. The Zone needs to be a bit larger that the breast as its influence falls off towards its edges (this can be controlled via the Falloff Graph). You will probably need to reduce the xScale of the zone somewhat, as breasts are longer than they are wide. If using two magnets at the same time, one on the right breast and one on the left breast, you should try to keep any overlap of the Zones to a minimum, as overlap can introduce asymmetry. Once you have positioned the Zones to your best guess, zTran the Mag to see what affect it has, if necessary adjust the Zones. Once the Zones are approximately right, you can start translating, and/or scaling the Mag. You will probably need to swap backwards and forwards between adjusting the Mag and the Zone a number of times. Use "Memorize" so you can can revert to a "Restore" point when a change does not have the desired effect.

Many people find magnets hard to use. Magnets are something you need to build up a feeling for over a period of time. There is no easy way to explain how to use them. In the end practise and experiment are the best tutors. Experiment on a simple shape, like a cube, or a flat surface like the GROUND plain to help you get a feel for it. Setting the Mag and Base to Outline Display Style can help you to have a clearer view. To adjust both breast at once you could try my "MirrorMags32" available at www.sharecg.com.

Quote - try my "MirrorMags32" available at www.sharecg.com.

That is such an amazing package!  I don't use magnets a great deal, but when I do, MirrorMags32 is my saving grace because instead of fiddling around with so many magnets, you set them up and fiddle with one!

I think magnets are really great for nudging clothes around, the only problem I have with them is their hideous look!

Just in case anyone wanted to change their appearence you can find the files in the Runtime:Geometries:deform folder. I modeled my own magnet and base obj's and placed those in the deform folder, renaming the original files so they were not deleted. You can also edit the CR2 and point to new base and magnets objects to whatever folder you want. 😉

Magnets not only look hideous, but can obscure your view of the figure. In "MirrorMags32" (MM32) I have provided many different ways to affect the appearance of the magnets. These include completely removing the geometry from the Mags and Bases, making the mags and bases semi-transparent, swapping the the Display Style to Outline, and substituting smaller geometry for the default geometry.

Making the Mags and Bases semi-transparent is the default action in MM32, and colour coding pairs of magnets can help to make things less confusing when a lot of magnets are used (see top image). Another way to make Mags and Bases less obtrusive is to use a different and smaller geometry for them, and/or to set their Display Style to Outline (see bottom image). All these things can be done by the application of pose files, so there is no need to take the radical step of replacing the default obj files. Though of course replacing the obj files will save you from having to take the extra step of applying a pose.

Here is an example of how you set a Mag and Base to be semi-transparent: { //Mag 1 Trans.pz2 version { number 4.01 }

baseProp Mag Base 1
        {
        storageOffset 0 0.3487 0
        objFileGeom 0 0 :Runtime:geometries:deform:base.obj
        material base
                {
                tMax 0.8
                }
        }
magnetDeformerProp Mag 1
        {
        storageOffset 0 0.3487 0
        objFileGeom 0 0 :Runtime:Geometries:deform:magnet.obj
        material magnet2
                {
                tMax 0.8
                }
        material magnet1
                {
                tMax 0.8
                }
        }
}

In P6 and above the amount of transparency that that will dislay in preview is limited in Render Settings>Preview> Transparency Display, the default setting is 90%, but you can change it to a different value or to "Actual". The geometry reference in the file is necessary (at least in P6) in order to stop the Mag from becoming completely transparent when the pose is applied.

The above file only works on "Mag 1" and "Base 1", but you could edit it to include "Mag 2", "Mag 3", etc.

If you are intrested in other ways of affecting the way magnets display you can download MM32 (its free) and examine the files in the MM32 Utility folder, many of the MM32 utility poses will work on any magnets that use the standard Poser naming from "Mag 1" to "Mag 32".

@ViperKilzz,

Sorry for going off the original topic here. I hope you are having some success with deforming the clothing.

Lesbentley, nice Avater! I dowbloaded your set. I have an appiotment this AM.I will trying these out later today to deform a piece of clothing. I also downloaded a product called "Sarah Sprelings deformer set a few days ago and am having a bit of trouble using it but i think that's because of my limited knowledge of magnet use. Thank you. Get back to you soon.
