Im trying to make a Carbon Fiber type texture in vue and Im having a bit of difficulty translating shader terms/ideas from one program to the next I have several I really like in c4d,.. anyways if anyone has some suggestions for setting for a good Carbonfiber texture and or industrial plastic play a polycarbonate used for hi-tech looking armor please post settings, ideas, places to look

You could find an image of carbon fiber on the net somewhere and convert it to grey scale in photoshop or whatever, invert for specular and revert for bump(or vice versa) whatever your looking for. Heres a quick one I did for ya to check out(;

Its not great, but it is ok.

there was,..
actually,.bump,color,spec
but apparently vue doesnt like the way I do textures
Im more used to c4d's method of shader/mat's (shrug)

Vue often INVERTS greyscale images by the way, comapred ot most other apps, hence you have littl einvert button in import window!
It's a  total pain in the arse, sigh but you can always eaisly invert any image ;)

Chudo
you don't need a seperate image for each, unless you need a specific difference, since, say you have a greyscale for the carbon fibre...

load it up in advanced material editor
connect it to colour, highlight and bump
you cna then add filters to easily invert any one you need to be the opposite
You cna also blend in fractals or noise to make it different.
Add colour node, blend, on main coour channel for variety

You can also add a new layer, add a mostly transparent material, with a rainbow colour map, to add iridescence, if want very odd look ;)

so, only 1 image is needed, saving resources ;)

blarghd,
no worries:)
**
**I do wish Vue's material editor mini window, that shows you an object preview with the mat, could show the ACTUAL bloody object you're working on, which would make tailoring mats so SO much easier, 'cause Bryce has had that feature for 10+ years! lol! :)

the other thing to watch for, is the MAPPING mode you use
for imported, properly UV mapped items, try OBJECT PARAMETRIC, or, OBJECT STANDARD

blarghd
read some of my tutorials, and watch GeekAtPlay.com's great video tutorials, they'll help :)

And as noted just above, I was editing, the mapping mode, makes huge difference on items.
for imported items generally use OBJECT PARAMETRIC.
