Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 03 1:41 pm)
To be exact, SkinFace had 10 (!) redundant colour maps. Not connected to anything, just sitting there.
Most of the rest of the material zones, however, only had one.

Be sure to run the "Remove Detached Nodes" against all materials (shift + click it) and re-save the collection, it ought to clean it up.
The plot thickens. I notice that with all the work I'm doing in the material room deleting these, the File > Save option is greyed out. Poser Pro isn't admitting I've done anything, apparently.
Very odd.

pjz99, I've already deleted the extra ones this time (also found about 7 extra colour maps on the teeth)... but I'm not understanding where I'm supposed to "Run Detached Nodes" if/when this comes up again. ?

In the material room, there's a wacro button "Remove Detached Nodes". You may have those hidden. They are in a slide-out on the right side of the node editor window.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
And if you shift-click or control-click it (can't remember which) it will apply to all materials on the figure.
You aren't, by any chance, involving VSS in this process? It is possibly doing this to you - making extra image maps.

Thanks, bagginsbill. Yeah, I had it hidden. Completely forgot about that tab/slider.
I used VSS at the very beginning of the process (I know well enough you're gonna give me a lot better starting point with that than I'm gonna generate myself, since I'm barely into the learning curve with all these nodes)... I may have run it three-four times, but certainly not 10, I'm sure.

Hm, this is an odd one. During render load, I happened to notice that I had failed to replace one of the materials from the default V4 with my own map (mouth specular). Anyway, when I took a close look in the material room, I discovered that I had a whole bunch of extra image maps (colour maps) floating loose in there. They were the right ones - i.e. my texture, and for the right material surface - but completely redundant, and in fact disconnected. I'm talking something like five colour maps for the face etc.
This is the first time I noticed this. The only thing that I can think of that could have caused this is that I've been saving my material collection periodically, and just overwriting the previous version with the same name when I've done some updating. Which makes me think that somehow a lot of that info, instead of overwriting is getting added (albeit with some disconnections happening - of necessity, I imagine).
Is this a familiar Poser bug?
I'm running Poser Pro on Win XP Professional 32.
Incidentally, it also occurs to me that this may be the source of my bump problems (mentioned in this thread) - my bump settings are perhaps getting thrown back to higher settings I had earlier. (That doesn't seem to have happened this particular time, but I did notice earlier that whereas I had the bump at around .0032 for most of the skin materials, it was later at .008, which I think was something I had at one early point.)
