blueblott ( ) posted Wed, 01 April 2009 at 4:34 AM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 1:41 AM

Hello
I am trying to learn how to use  Blender    (  " and so are we I hear you all say lol")  version 2.48a.

Completed one of Tufts tuts Snowman ok felt pleased  with myself   great!

But now every time I open Blender I get one of the Snowman Blend files opens automaticaly!!

So I have to delete all this before I can start.     plus     It will not let me tab into Edit mode .

I have deleted all the tmp files.

Deleted Blender from add/remove .

Done a search and deleted all files for Blender.that remained.

Disc cleanup/ Defrag

Reg Mechanic

Reinstalled Blender 2.48a

Problem still there !

Re downloaded 2.48a  tried again................same story.

So where can I look for this file ? or is there a program that will search and destroy?

Was on a roll till this happened.

Thanks for any help
Regards Bluebott

Sounds like you accidently changed the default scene.  From the noob to pro wikibook:

Quote - InformationYou can change the default scene (and return to a personalized one when pressing Ctrl-X). Just modify the scene and arrange dialogs to suit your needs, then click File > Save Default Settings. Your current scene will now be used as the default when you click File > New. This is very handy indeed. To return to factory defaults, you can delete the file which contains those settings: .B.blend in your home directory. Starting from version 2.44, a new Load Factory Settings item is available from the File menu.

Thanks Bluebott

Navigate to it in your operating system and use the delete key?  Probably Blender shouldn't be running at the time.  If you can't get it to work, though, using file>load factory settings and then file>save default settings will replace it instead.

blueblott - I know how you felt, I did that back a few versions. I'd set up images as backdrops, and had an ongoing model i was working with for a week or two, saved those user settings, then for the next couple months, I spent the first couple minutes every time I loaded Blender, deleting the objects, and removing the images from the backdrop. Nice to  have that "default settings" option now. Course, at the time, it never occurred to me to "scrub" the scene, and save the cleaned scene as the default...doh.

Thanks Haloedrain  & Warlock 279,

I did manage to remove the file by doing a search for B.blend file .
it returned a file that on other searches it did'nt locate so after moving this to a zip file(so it could not be read) I  opened Blender and everything was fine and back to normal.
But this file was not displayed in the home directory.?
When looking for files where does blender store them.
Blender itself is in C:programs.
along with temp files.
prefetch in windows system 32.
Documents.
Those are the only four spots I could find.

But no matter all is well....so onwards and upwards
Thanks for your valued help.

Regards
Blueblott
