Subject: A question about contests

RealDeal ( ) posted Sun, 10 May 2009 at 2:36 AM · edited Sun, 21 July 2024 at 1:06 AM

I have a question; I don't think it's politically incorrect, or commercial, or otherwise forbidden, but if it is, sorry.
I'm wanting to sponsor a couple of contests, and was wondering what sort of prize money people would think it was worthwhile making the effort for?
By contest, I mean something on the lines of: Best character study set in Fritz Leiber's World of Nehwon,  or Best outdoor scene set in Pratchett's Discworld (which, really, could be anything), or best render of a Swords and Sorcery style duel, something on the same line.
Would $20 be enough? $50? $100? More? Less? what?

I think you'll get lots of different answers to that, My price would be $25 to make it worth the effort, but I'm cheap anyway!!

My choice on whether to enter a contest tends to be on the subject. If it seems like fun and I had the time then I'd give it a go even without prize money.

I'd guess that the more cash on offer the more entries you would attract. Offer enough and you'd get the pros and semi-pros on board, if that is your intention but this may discourage beginners from taking part.

For me, it's strictly weather or not the subject is interesting, is it a new idea or take...something to make you think outside the box.  😉

On another site the contests seem to be about $100 in store credits and some content for 1,2,3 and 2 honorable mentions. Renderosity contests seem to be a bit better in prizes. I doubt myself if the prizes really effect the entries since I never expect to win I do it purely for the experiance.

I think $50 would be a decent prize pool $25, $15, $10 for 1,2,3rd.

If you want to run it at renderosity contact an admin.

Well I've sponsored contest on another site (which is now closed) and the prize was (probably among others) one free item from my store. That's another way to do it :) Get someone to sponsor you (if you're interested I could probably supply you with a few interesting links...)

Same here.  The theme has to inspire me. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter what the prize is I won't enter.

I have entered contests in the past. Some have been with prizes attached, others have just been for the fun.

If you are looking to attach a monetary value to a prize, I think something along the lines of $25.00 gift certificate to a store is more than acceptable.

Thank you for all the input; It seriously helped with what I'm planning. Note: **markschum, **
I've tried several times, and, like trying to turn off the "bold" on this text, I had no luck. I'm going a different route.
