Subject: Cannot install Muscle Morphs in Poser Pro

ddfeder ( ) posted Mon, 29 June 2009 at 11:53 AM · edited Wed, 24 July 2024 at 7:33 PM

Hi all,

I've purchased the DAZ3D muscle morphs package for V4 but when I try to install it in my Poser Pro folder I get a message that the morphs must be installed to the same directory as the application executable.  I am assuming this means that I need to install to the Poser Pro folder which I am but I still get the error message.

Does anyone have any ideas?  I've fiddled with this and left a message for the folks at DAZ3D but if anyone has something for me to try, please do let me know.

Thanks,

Dov

Morphs pack for V4 must go into the same Runtime as V4 (so that the initialisation script will work).

The simplest solution is to select "DAZ Studio" as the install type and then select the appropriate Runtime directory.

The other solution is to create a fake Poser.exe in some way (any file with the right name will do, the contents are unimportant) in the Runtime you want to install to.

The correct way to create a fake Poser.exe, open your text editor, save as 'Poser.txt', then change the .txt format to .exe.  PoserPro does not have 'Poser.exe'.

Thank you both very much for your responses.  However, I've tried creating a Poser.exe file (just like Superman said) and placed it in my Smith Micro/Poser Pro directory.  I still cannot install the morphs.  I don't know why, but I don't see a DAZ directory so I can't install it there.

Does anyone have any other ideas?  I'm getting really frustrated. Thanks,

Dov

You almost certainly have extensions hidden (this is the Windows default), so your file is really called Poser.exe.txt

When you run the installer, instead of selecting "Poser" as the install type, select "DAZ Studio", then when it ask for the destination just choose the Poser Runtime where you want to install.
Doing this is the easiest way to get round the check for Poser.exe (exactly the same files are installed AFAIK).

Boy O Boy are you guys good!  That did it - I was FINALLY able to install.  Thank you both sooooooo very much!  And Mr. Superman - your secret identity is safe with me.

Hi I tried the above ( having the same issues) but no matter how or where I try this
I get " The requierd file not found, aborting..." it does not tell me WHICH file so kind of
hard to trouble shoot, DAZ forums is no help either.

Hi Mr Raptor

Did you untick the Windows folder option "Hide known file extensions"? And did you delete the extra extension (e.g. .txt) on the Poser.exe file? (See nruddock's second post, first paragraph).

This is the usual reason. Or not installing into the same Runtime as your V4.2. The folder you choose in the installation program must be the parent folder of the Runtime you are installing into.

Ok here is what I had to do ( anoying as hell)

  1. Created a c:test dir with a fake Poser.exe file in it
  2. Re installed V4.2 base into that directory
  3. Installed the Elite Morphs into the same dir (that worked!)
  4. Copy the Runtime from test into my Poser Pro install

Glad you got it sorted!
