Subject: Questions about Poser 8 library, morph tool and others

flyerx ( ) posted Tue, 11 August 2009 at 4:23 PM · edited Fri, 01 November 2024 at 8:59 AM

Hello,

I would like to ask people that have used Poser 8 a few questions about features that are not fully described in the promos. I currently use Poser 6 in Windows XP and I am looking into upgrading to 8.

-Can the library items be mixed arbitrarily so that related items could be grouped properly? For example a folder with a figure's name and inside of that sub-folders for clothing, poses, materials, props, hair, etc.

-Can library items be renamed?

-Can library items be moved within Poser?

-Can library thumbnails be of a different size than 91x91 as in previous versions of Poser?

-Can library items show text, html, pdf or similar files for documentation of each item?

-Can tags or notes be added to a library item?

-Does the library show file dependencies for each item?

-Does the library search span several runtimes or drives?

-Does the morph tool work on the mesh after or before any included morphs or magnets present in the figure. If so can it be toggled?

-Does the morph tool work on props?

-Does the morph tool work on dynamic clothing after the simulation?

-Can materials be renamed?

-Can the materials be listed with the main library instead of a separate one in the materials tab?

-What figures are supported by the version of Wardrobe Wizard included in Poser 8?

-Can the background color and text font and color be changed on the interface?

-Are there better gizmos than in P6 for moving figure parts and props?

-Can the injection pose files from V4 and M4 that were required to be in the core P6 directory be moved to its corresponding runtime?

-Is Wavefront export still available?

-Has the dynamic cloth simulator been improved or changed in any way?

thanks,

FlyerX

Wow

That's a load of questions and some of them I'm interested in. I'll have to give it a try.  When you are asking about renaming the library items are you talking about the folder or the actual item?

I was referring to the actual item name but an editable folder name would be nice too.

I'm not sure about the actual item name, but you should be able to rename the folders in the same way that they were renamed in in Poser 7 and Poser Pro.  I'll try it tonight and let you know for definite about  renaming the folder because some of my folders need to be renamed just so I can find it in the search.

FlyerX- It sounds like you are writing a paper on the subject rather than really asking... but i see your a member for 9 years so I guess thats not the case....

as for renaming items and mats, I think the easiest way is to add to library as the name you want and delete the original.

search searches all runtimes youve added

no file dependancy lists, no

I think, but may be wrong but all thumbs are 91x, correct me if im wrong though

wavefront is still an export option i believe

There are NO new fun gizmos for moving items or making posing any easier.

You can put items into a favorites catagory for easy access.

I got no info for morph tools

In reference to renaming the library items:  You can rename the folder that holds your 3D content. For example if you went to smith micro/poser 8/downloads/runtime/library/character/Daz Aiko.

You can renamed the Daz Aiko folder to something like Aiko 3 Base, but you can't rename any of the other folders before that (parent folders).  Renaming the actual item may be more headache than what you want because 3D models like clothing and texture may look for a particular file name.  If it doesn't see that file name then the texture or morph won't work because it can't find that specific file name.

The other problem that you'll run into is related to searching for content. When I want to know if I have a certain type of clothing installed. Looking for it by the original name won't work because you renamed it to something else.

If I had to give advice on this then I would say rename the item folder but not the item itself.

Hopefully this will help.

I rename every folder except for the main characters. So all of my clothing, hair, props, texture and geometries folders have the same names, the names of the items inside and Poser 6,7 and 8 haven't had any problems finding them.
