Subject: OT: Now that's a nice texture map

I was just looking at some of the new images that were released for FFXIV on friday and I was really impressed with some of the texture mapping that square was able to do on some of those monsters and terrains.

Some of the monster models don't look high poly, they aren't using any displacement mapping, and the lighting could probably a little tweaking, but it looks like games are really starting to look very well done at least in one respect.  The details on the cactus thing and the tentacle monster really caught my eye.

Here's a link if it's allowed (mods can edit it out if it isn't)

WARK!

Thus Spoketh Winterclaw: a blog about a Winterclaw who speaks from time to time.

(using Poser Pro 2014 SR3, on 64 bit Win 7, poser units are inches.)

They are using normal mapping instead of displacement mapping, which Poser 7 pro and poser 8 can also do.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Aye, normal maps are sweet nector from the gods. 😉

Comitted to excellence through art.

Actually most current and next gen games use what is called  Parallax Mapping

Dunno if it's doable in poser though.
