Hi, can some one help me figure out how to fix my problem here?
I have included the flv file with my post.

I started this post in the animation forum  but it seems no one gos down there much. I really need some help and no other board out there is ever willing to try to help me.

Here is what's going on
When looking at the file I have a thermometer, 4 buttons and 4 glass movie clips.

If I click on each button the thermometer and the glass clips play like they should, however if I click all of the buttons then click the bottom button again the glass movie clips stay on their last frame.

I want each movie clip above the one I'm clicking on to be reset,  but I dont want to change how each movie is being played the way it is now.
meaning if you click the buttons from bottom to top they play exactly how I want them to. then if I click the third button it will reset the top  hope i did'nt make that too confusing  :)

Thank you
Jeff

What flash version are you using?

ninhalo5 ( ) posted Mon, 23 November 2009 at 11:07 AM

I'm building it on CS4 using AS2for the file

When you say:

"....but I dont want to change how each movie is being played the way it is now. "

What do you mean exactly? Can't I just redo the whole thing to suit the new and better method - even if the result is the exactly the same but with added functionality?

 ummm ok  :D

it's just that when you pull up the file and run it as a swf  going from bottom to top I want it to play just as it is playing.
click bottom button thermometer goes to first line and stops at the same time the glass fills up. then each button the thermometer goes up to the next step.
fairly straight forward I think.
if you play with the swf randomly clicking buttons  you'll prob see what is messing up and making it not right.
I think I need to insert an if /else statement but I just do not know how to write one.. never could do it in excel and still can't  :(

Excellent. If I can change the file to suit then this makes things easier for me.

Okay here it is. Hope it's okay by you - I took some liberties but it ultimately looks and feels just like what you had, but with the added forward and backwards functionality and a little smaller footprint.

If it doesn't work for you, I'm sorry ): poo. I tried.

ninhalo5, I don't know if you got it yet but get it again. I replaced the linked version with an updated version - found a bug. It's all good now.

Excellent. Glad to hear it works for you.

I wouldn't say you were 'way off' but you definitely painted yourself into a corner.

Bummer though, I didn't even think to add comments to it. Sorry about that. ):  If you have any questions I'll try my best to explain.

how true  I've been to several other flash related forums and I can't seem to ever get help.
A lot of the people here at rendo are a god send, always willing to help if they know the answer  and even if they don't they sure as heck try.

I do wish we had a seperate forum for flash... I know we have the animation forum but that seldom gets visited I posted down there first and after a couple of days it only had 5 views and 0 responses.
