I was just on the 3delight website and they have gallery images from District 9. Was 3delight used for the making of District 9?..really ....For all of it or just certain frames? I mean wow, that was some quality renering!

Wow, are you kidding me...  I loved the movie.
anytime that you can explode humans is a great scene  :D

Any ways that is interesting, though I think they may have used some stronger applications for the final cuts..

Here's a link just in case someone didn't know. MysterOctober I'm not sure how much of it was rendered in 3Delight but they do have an awesome selection of stills in the gallery from District 9. I could have swore that was Mental Ray and makes me wonder just how much of the engine Daz studio does not utilize.

quite a lot of it by all accounts.  I have a standalone 3Delight licence which I sometimes use in Blender and it gives amazing renders.  I dunno if the latest Studio advanced can access more of the engine functions though - I can never get Studio to run properly on this rig

you'll need the MOSAIC plugin for Blender to use it.

And the twelve page tutorial to learn it.....Ive already managed to produce a render with Aqsis, it seems like a great engine as well, but i wouldnt mind tinkering with 3delight. Honestly Im just waiting on Lux 0.7 with SSS, I think organic realism is in their next set of updates(although it has nothing to do with renderman).

i grabbed 3Delight as well... i'm wondering if Daz can use the full version and if so how do i get it to do so?

FrankT ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2010 at 5:32 PM

You can run the standalone 3Delight to render out of Daz Studio with an .RIB
Studio 2.x used 3Delight 6.5.2 and Studio 3.x used 3Delight 8.5

The free (32 bit) and advanced (32/64bit) versions of Studio will use all cores of my quad i7-920 with hyperthreading which 3Delight standalone wont do without a pay-for license, the drawback is you can't import much of anything into Studio except .OBJ and some Poser native file types.
