Subject: P7 -External Runtimes -contents went POOF! (help?)

Rosemaryr ( ) posted Sat, 13 March 2010 at 6:57 AM · edited Tue, 30 July 2024 at 1:40 AM

So I keep my stuff organized in external runtimes, organized by the major categories that i use (ie., Michael, Victoria, Animals, Hair, etc.)

I go to open P7, and work on a cloth room WIP I had set up but not finished.  Wanted to add a movement pose to Mike to get some extra draping going.

I click to load my Michael runtime to the library list, it shows up on the library list, but then, there's nothing showing inside:  No figures, no poses, no nothing.
Same thing with my Victoria runtime.

The Hair runtime loads fine, as does Animals...everything where it should be.
Why would Poser see one runtime and it's contents, but not another, which is set up exactly the same????  Granted the Michael and Victoria runtimes  are huge* compared to the others, but I've had no such trouble before.

Suggestions?  I'm about to remove P7, and re-install if that what it takes....but would like to avoid the hassle, if possible.

Did you try removing the offending runtimes from the Library, then re-adding them?

Yup.  No good.
Even (showing how desperate I was...) went into my computer's folders to double check that the contents hadn't been somehow deleted!

Just a thought; are you on a Mac or Windows?

I have had issues with the case of sundirectory names when running Poser under Linux, such as finding a 'libraries' folder and a 'Libraries' folder in a Runtime after installing content.  The result is that you don't see the contents of the folder you expect to.  This isn't an issue on Windows, but could be on a Mac, since underneath that pretty GUI,  it is good old UNIX...

My editing time expired..

If you are on WindowsXP, with Poser closed, go to this folder (I'm not quite sure where it exists on VISTA):

C:Documents and Settings{Your User Name} Application DataPoser 7 (you will need to turn on View Hidden Directories to browse to it) and rename or delete the file  'LibraryPrefs.xml'  Poser will create a new one when it restarts.  You can the try adding the misbehaving runtime to the library

If this doesn't work, try renaming the whole folder and Poser will create a new one.

PC, WindowsXP.
Setup is (example):
C:PoserStuff:Mike:Runtime:(subfolders as determined by installation process; ie. Geometries, Libraries, etc.)
Same structure for every runtime.
Poser is 'seeing' the "Mike" and "Vicky" supra-folder names and adding them to the library list, but not showing anything inside of it.

Have my runtimes gotten too large to load?? (Eeech, what a thought!)

My v4 runtime is 9.4GB with almost 40,000 files and it loads OK.  I suppose there must be a limit, but I don't know what it is.

Try nuking the preference file as noted above...

Radiation-resistant!  Nuking ineffective.

(sigh)

Trying to re-name the "Mike" folder and see if that makes a difference.

(later)
Nope, that doesn't do it either.  ALL of the other runtimes load (and unload) properly.  But Michael and Victoria just won't show up at all!  (Getting frustrated and ready to punch the computer!!)

Gave up, did a full re-install of P7.  That seems to have finally put things to rights.  sigh

Now maybe I can stop wasting time fixing things, and get back to working the stuff!!!

Thanks for your time on this, WandW!!  I do appreciate your holding my hand through this!

It happened to me but the entire directory (on the disk) was gone.  When I restored it from a backup the textures were still gone so anything that had textures was toast.

Glad it's fixed.Make sure you reinstall the service releases and content update if you haven't already.
