Subject: Mapping Frog

I'm trying to develop a texture for the Poser3/4 frog. In downloading the template from DAZ and generating a similar version in UV Mapper, the layout is basically one top view for the body. What this means is basically one identical texture top and body, plus a helluva of a mess at the side seams. (I've mapped it with the wireframe and the mesh coordinates are badly merged and distorted.) The only other method apart from BodyPaint3d etc, is to map it in a different method in UV Mapper, i.e. planar x axis etc. However, I don't know how to map this different scheme either within Poser or other obj/mat programs. Is there a way out of this? TIA manowar

heyas; i'd point you to my 'new improved zygote frog,' which is a remapping of the frog. but it is currently in limbo. if you want to make your own uvmapping for the frog, it isn't that hard. do whatever changes you want in uvmapper, then save the obj. make sure you give it a new name. like frog2.obj. now open the frog's cr2 in a txt or cr2 editor and replace the two instances of the geometry pointer to point to your new frog. (ie: search for 'blFrog.obj' and replace with 'frog2.obj' or whatever). save the cr2 with a new name (ie: frog2.cr2) you're done. :) except for painting the maps.

Excellent! and simply amazing. This is tough to explain, but ... I was running the route of : Poser to UV mapper (for different mapping) to Obj2Fact to Electricimage. The difficulty was that UV mapper in the original and following posed morphs, while keeping everything else the same changed the number of "tverts. " This did a number on morphing in EI. So basically I had Poser which did the morphs and UV which did the revised mapping, but couldn't get the two the together. Thanks to your help, I can put UV's advantage into poser and run with the identical original/morphs into Obj2Fact. manowar

Well, looks like I spoke too soon. The new geometry maps correctly in Poser, but its members don't pose properly. I think the geometry is different via UV mapper. Thanks again. manowar

To remap a Poser model and still be able to pose the model afterwards, take a look at the tutorial on my site. HTH, Steve

Thanks for the reference. I will study this tomorrow for future use. I did visit your site earlier today and got the Mac version 2.9. Was running 2.6 without any problems. Needless to say, the program has been a tremendous help in the past. Unfortunately, it appears I was using an incorrect file in today's work. Because of the difficulties, I ran with an EI plug-in which "unfolds" mesh; it entails multiple maps in a non-uv manner. This works fairly well as EI has great mapping capabilities. I must say this has been a learning experience. I tried the demo of Cinema4d's product, Bodypaint, and did a frog via painting of fact uv files in Amorphium 1.0. The results were rather poor and still difficult to achieve any realism. In my little experience it appears much easier to do this with programs like UV Mapper, Steamroller, etc and PS. Thanks again for the help. manowar
