Subject: animate a bike

Hello,
I have been trying to find a good tutorial on animating a bike, well in fact it s a Penny Farthing bike.
But any cycle animation  of course will help.
Just having a job getting my head around where to start on this type of animation.
Would this have to be single frame " Key Frames" to look best to get a smooth movement?
I think the PF Bike has a fixed wheel so that the cyclist pedals all the time (so I cant cheat and free wheel down the hills LOL !
Thanks for any help
Jon
