Subject: Light Saber Glow simulation in Poser or Daz Studio3

Hello everyone!!! I´m stuck with one issue I´m trying to solve, I´m new to poser that´s the reason of my absence in the max gallery, I want to render a glow directly in Poser 5 or Daz Studio 3, I´ve been checking for two days but there´s some stuff about both programs I still don´t get, is there an easy way to do this? or I´ll have to export everything to max and jus do it there?

Thanks a lot for your time and happy rendering.

In Poser, you can accomplish a glow by plugging the image map into the Ambient color of your root node in the material room and setting its Ambient color to 1 or greater.  However, if you are expecting surrounding areas to catch any emitted light, it is not easily possible in Poser 5 within creating gather nodes in those materials.  It can be done in P8 and PoserPro 2010 with IDL.

Turning up ambient will give a glow effect. In Poser 5 you need to use a  spot light to provide actual light to the surrounding area.  I found it easier to use an effect in photoshop.

You might also try a semi tansparent  tube slightly larger than the light sabre around it with the same colour and ambient value of 1 to give the glow

Would this thread be of any use? You wouldn't have the use of the gather node in P5 (it was introduced in P6 ) so no illuminating other objects unless you use an additional light.

First of all thanks a lot Guys I´´l be exploring all of these ideas, i´ve just read the thread Raven left on his message and that option looks good besides the modeling part i´d just have to use an aditional light.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!!

HAPPY RENDERINGS!!!!

Here's one in PoserPro2010

Angie feels silly-dressed like that and waving around a Lightsaber-hence the grin. :-) NOTE: the greenish glow on Angie is from a greenish light-NOT the saber  The LS is a Galactic Sword from Share CG and is three overlapping tubes with different transparency and translucence nodes.

with IDL enabled in poser 8 and later, the translucence channel causes a posersurface
to emit diffuse light.

one thing that bothered me about the old gather node - the grainy renders that were
routinely posted here and they may have never explained how to get a smooth diffuse
appearance to it.  I dunno if anybody set IC to 100 (MaxError=0) and maxxed out all
the gather variables to smooth it out, but in those days, poser 6 and the processors were
too slow to waste time trying it.
