 i am running a 24" iMac with 4 gb of ram, I am getting spinning rainbow when choosing some models within daz studio 3 is this a problem with daz studio or snow leopard on the mac?

Sometimes things just take a while in DAZ studio but I am not sure if that is your issue. Each time you load something for the first time it creates a DAZ file and it can take a while for big or complex things.

 its just one item a top but it seems very big 125 mb maybe thats the reason?

It could be. Try to load it and then walk away, get a cup of coffee or have dinner and then come back. Load it by itself too, just to get it into the system.
