Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Lzy, the issues became our daily life when living in Poser dome... in time, you feel them as normal things and when you want to tell someone else that doesn´t use Poser, then you see that you are very lost... the same as them that never used it LOL
I hope we can have some answers... let's pray :)

morning, in my mirror... they are there.
Well I can say, you are 10 steps ahead of me!
When I look at your mat room settings, I practically faint, I have no clue how you do that!! But its awesome, so dont ever stop!
I'll wait with ya, we can have a milkshake and chill while somebody comes by and says the magic poser words and it gets fixed!!
:)
Hi Fabiana... the displaced textures (if they are off by like a few pixels) are probably due to texture filtering being on quality, perhaps? Try to set texture filtering to None for your textureMaps (imageMaps) and see if the problem persists.

YES Robyn, that works but in example, if you do it in the hairs, they look horrible even using the best quality render settings... In Poser 6, all looks so good... well, is slower but the images look better because are not so washed in the details... I turn on and off the filtering for specific materials in Poser7 but never get the same look...
Actually is a nightmare if you want to be exact in the placement of details...
Let's see what else can we learn here :)
Lzy... thanks!!!!!! well I love the Material Room and believe me that is the part that I enjoy as candies... modelling is lovely, mapping is hard and boring, morphing is ok... rigging is ok also, but the mat room is my favourite place :) I always think that there are more ways to get fun there :)
Lately, what I really HATE is the rendering LOL... my machines, as me, are getting older :)
see ya

Quote - I'm not a wise Poser guru, but the slow loading in Poser 7 might be due to having a high number of undo levels in the preferences. P7 will probably be slower anyway just because it has the undo feature, but if it only has to remember, say 10 undos instead of 100, it should run faster.
Good points. I didn't think of that, but now that you mention it, I am able to delete things immediately when I use the shift-del key methods, bypassing the undo feature. Will try lowering my undo buffer and see if it speeds things up a little.
Thanks for the info!
Tony.
Parrotdolphin, thanks... but in my poser7, is not changing--- I just have 2 undos because am used to the just one of Poser 6... will try to reset it again, and modifying it again also... Good point the shift-del trick... I always use the delete key but for some weird reason sometimes doesn´t do a thing and I need to go to the menu for delete the thing...
thanks people!

Exactly!
My favorite thing, loading a prop that is all parented, like a house.. delete the main body, and OMG... the rest of the house is still sitting there, so... delete, stare at wall... delete, tap toe, delete, stare into light, close eyes, see bright dots, delete, flip through 50 channels, delete, check forums, refresh, delete, refresh type, refresh..
now tis ready to load another prop. very frustrating, but I guess I've gotten used to it. Just like I am now used to Firefox and the lovely, web server is busy crap... as I chat on msn, and have IE open at the same time.
Maybe I am just too easy to baffle. LOL
It sounds silly, but it worked for me...
When I was using PoserPro (the first one that's more like P7) and I wanted to delete something, I'd press the delete key and, yes, it would seem to take for ever for anything to happen. What I discovered (on my system, can't say it will be the same for others) was that if, during that interminable wait, I moved the pointer over to the library palette, PPro would spring back to life the second I did this.
It was so strange and quirky, and it became my natural reaction to move the pointer to the library palette after every delete, that I didn't think to ask if this happened for other people. (The Delete Delay doesn't happen now I'm using PPro2010, but for a few weeks after first installing it, my reaction to deleting an item would be to search for the library palette and want to move my pointer in that direction!)
Well, I think I should have said right at the start that I'm anything but a guru, so my suggestion was a bit simplistic, I guess, and I apologise for that, Fabiana. Of course, you do know about the texture filtering effects. :blushing:
Setting texture filtering to none or to quality has gotten a bit easier with Matmatic 1.1, but there's that learning curve of Matmatic, which most people find a bit mind-boggling, I guess. But it does work brilliantly with VSS (not the skin shader, the actual shader-distribution tool) setting all those eyelash texture filters to quality and the same for eyebrows, but for skin and like that you can set it to none, all in the script.
As far as loading poses from the library - mat poses or morphs or whatever - that loooOOOOooong pause seem to be the inescapable fact of life for the Poser user. All of my PCs - the ones that are still somewhat alive, that is - are relatively long in the tooth, and with the economy being what it is and finances being what they are, it doesn't look like I'll be in the market for a new one any time in the foreseeable future. So I sit and wait and learn to be patient.

So... we the poser people then are trapped in this long and unavoidable lost of time meantime Poser 7 decided to do something or not... LOL
I must admit that I was not thinking there was so many people having the same troubles than me, what makes me feel contradictory feelings: In a hand, we can share small tricks because we are in the same situation... and in the other hand, I see that we have not a chance to get rescued from the delays and sudden freezes, closes, and all weirdness that can come in a moment...
Forgot to mention another of the strange things that I see sometimes:
The render is going ok, all the settings checked twice, all correct... and then the render freezes in a stupid point, I mean, maybe where is nothing to render... This can cause the crash, and then I open the file again, start the render again, and the same situation occurs... in the SAME point!!!!!
The same file, all the same... but after an hour of doing nothing with the Poser... then the render goes fine... Tooooooo weird for me LOL
Robyn: is ok dear, nothing is too simplistic... you see, we are all talking about simple things and even not finding solutions :) and I appreciate the postings here, of all you :)

For a long time, I thought it was my new computer, which believe me, renders everything pretty much compared to my old one that I had to resize textures over and over again..... mainly because this one is 64 bit w7. But now I think it doesnt matter what the OS is... its just poser.
:)
I bite down and bear with it I guess... seems the only thing left to do.
About the only think I can think of to speed up Poser's load-the-pose time is to make sure your Windows is as squeaky-clean as possible. That means: all rubbish files cleaned off the system (CrapCleaner - it's free), and the odd defragmentation done so the files are all together. Oh, be careful using CrapCleaner - it tends to clean a bit too vigorously sometimes, like autofill stuff for FireFox like logins and stuff.
There are those who think it doesn't matter, but I have found that if I uninstall programmes I don't use, Windows and Poser seems to work a bit faster.
Just a thought...

Hello... I Know that in the times of Poser 2010, and Poser 8... this can sound stupid but is my circunstance...
For long time I used only Poser 6 even I had Poser 7 since the release...
The fact that never made me like it is that to apply a pose to V4 delays about 6-7 seconds or more each time... and in poser6 it is instant thing...
Then, I never did more some tests and try the products I design there just to know if they are ok in Poser7... now I am doing more use of it but still have this problem with the speed on apply things...
So... are there any explanation?
Both programs are installed in the same partition, the delay occurs using poses from the external runtimes and the propietary ones, I mean, delays the same even applying things from the default Poser 7 runtime.
Then, that is one of the questions...
The other is this: I noticed that Poser 7 displaces the textures... I mean: I did a texture for an object from my own, I know very well how is the mapping because I did it and the texture was done and tested in Poser 6.. all works fine and even is for sale here...
Then, I use the same object with the same texture in Poser 7 and then I see the texture is not in the place I putted it in the map... is displaced... also noticed it with the hair textures of many hair objects...
Are there any explanation????
Hope someone can help me with this :)
