Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 21 1:30 pm)
Well, the manual is a bit of a mess and would benefit from a complete re-write IMO. In this instance it seems to use 'content collection' to refer both to the stuff in your libraries and the 'favourites' feature that you can find described on Page 118 of the manual.
Note that the favourites feature doesn't organise your content, as such, it creates shortcuts to the actual library items. But it means that you can create 'collections' of stuff in ways that make sense to you.

Well, OK. Now that I've explored the Favorites tab a bit, I have to say that my original hunch was right - the whole "content collections" thing was an idea that never got fully implemented. Or tested for that matter.
I would advise everyone to stay far away from it, and here's why. If you add an item to a favorites collection, a shortcut to the item is created in the ...RuntimeLibrariesCollections folder along with a corresponding .png file, all of which is fine so far. But if you then delete an item from your favorites collection, not only does the shortcut get deleted, but so does the original item itself.
If that wasn't bad enough you end up getting all these odd "Failed to retrieve file times..." errors. Plus Poser loses track of the .png file, so all you get is the "clueless man" icon or whatever it's called.
That indicates to me that the "favorites" functionality really wasn't ready when Poser 8 was released. Perhaps they've fixed it in a subsequent release, but the version I have has serious problems with favorites.

Whoa. I know that bug was reported because I reported it. It was fixed, confirmed fixed, and cleared from the bug list.
Somebody must have accidentally undone the fix.
Report it to SM.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Yes. You should upgrade. There were several hundred bugfixes since 10157. Plus the library GUI has many additional features. After you upgrade, click the "Klingon Toothpick" at the bottom of the library window and have a look at all the stuff you can set.
Thanks, dr geep. I just assumed we were all talking about the current version and I can't test it myself because I no longer keep Poser 8 on my computer.

Had to make room for Poser 9 alpha, eh? (wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say no more!)

The "Poser Tutorial Manual" talks about "content collections" as a way of organizing content, but there is no such feature to be found on my version of Poser 8. The "Poser Reference Manual" alludes briefly to these mysterious collections, but doesn't really say anything about them.
I have to wonder if this was an idea that never got implemented, or is it just buried somewhere under the UI?
I'd really like to have such a feature because, let's face it, Poser's content management is a bit of a mess.
