THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Offline for awhile...

Hi you all!

Just a brief note to let you all know that I've been having computer problems... my CMOS went bad so I am going to be offline for a while. I'm now at a internet cafe, typing this. When my computer gets back, I'll log on again. In the meantime, have fun!

Fran

I see a sound

Sometimes they come out very soft

Same issue, different problem.  My DSL modem up and had a coronary.  Embarassingly, the wife called me at work and said the "Internet" wasn't working.  My wife's computer skills would rival your great grandfather's.

So I asked, "What did you do this time?"  You'd think I'd learn.

Then, when I got home, sure 'nuf, deader than a doornail.

Bought a new DSL modem today and things are peachy, but oh, the cost!!!

Nukeboy ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2010 at 6:54 PM

And I don't mean the $50 for the modem.........

Quest ( ) posted Fri, 12 November 2010 at 8:43 AM

eh...what a pain. Sooner or later I'm going to have to re-install the OS on this one and I'm not looking forward to it...with all the driver and software re-installing and looking for serial numbers and reactivating and all of that...I keep putting it off. Anyways...good luck with that CMOS operation. @ Nukeboy...cash...it's always about the cash. You'ed think that by now everything would be dirt cheap...hopeful thinking on my part.

Well, I'm back! But sadly I have to put the program files collection into the main program files folder... Thank goodness, I am still using XP or I would have a stroke, coronary and an embarrassing lack of control of temper. I have 2 new projects to start this week and I have an old one to finish. Think I'll just try to do the one with the deadline of this week... And no, it's not Bryce...

Was it the CMOS battery that had to be replaced? or the actual CMOS chip?

PS: Going by my avatar I'm a square. ;)

ThunderStone ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2010 at 11:07 PM · edited Tue, 16 November 2010 at 11:09 PM

Seems that the battery had to be replaced. The computer was getting very forgetful of its IOs and HD... HD was fine... but oh brother.... IT was such a bother!!!  Any way it's back at its place, which means I've got to catch up on some work and also put the software files back into its place... Bryce still works and so does poser. Not sure about Studio... A few I have to re-install...

And yes... You probably had to be a square... Maybe you didn't get to there when you were supposed to??? (Be there or be ...) :tt2:

Computer problems. It seems lots of us are having them. I spent 11 months in nursing home for cancer treatment, then cancer surgery and recovery after. Soon after I got home, my system HDD went bad. As soon as I got the replacement HDD installed, my video card died. Replaced that and my only SATA HDD went bad. URGH!!!!!!

Everything is fine now, and I am slowly installing my software. In December, I will get myself a medium size Wacom Intuos 4. The small Graphire 4 that I have is too small for me.

Sorry about your cancer and computer problems.  I hope you are doing better at both.

Thank you, UVDan. I am doing better at both.

My avatar is an image I made in Bryce 5, shortly after Daz3D acquired it. That is when I first got acquainted with the software. I reduced the size and saved it out for an avatar, while retaining the full size image. I have been away from CG since mid 2008, when my eyes started to go bad. I finally got glasses this year, when I figured my sight had stabilized. I bought Bryce 7 Pro and Daz Studio 3 Advanced, after rejoining the Platinum Club this month.

Now that I can see clearly again, and my primary computer is nice and stable, not to mention functioning fast and smoothly, I intend to have fun in 3D CG again.

Back when I painted in Acrylics and Oils, the ones I sold were my imaginary landscapes. Bryce and Vue Infinite are just different tools for doing what I love to do. When I become more adept with them, I will begin posting in the galleries here at renderosity.

I am wondering if I should post the image I made my avatar from, as well as a few others from Bryce 5. I did that one in 2005

ThunderStone ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2010 at 6:14 AM

If you didn't post it in the gallery before now, you should do so. Everybody likes to see some "new" old artwork.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of us in the USA.  Of course, you should always give thanks no matter where you are!

Peace.

Well, I will mention that folks over here in the Bryce forum talked me into posting the CRUD (I could have used a different word) that I have done. It is all stinkin newbie stuff.

We were all newbies once.  Seven years later, I'll still accept the "newbie" mantel!
