Subject: metablob vs hyperblob ?

ddaydreams ( ) posted Mon, 15 November 2010 at 1:03 PM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 1:31 AM

I'm waiting for V9 complete to be availible.

So I can't try for myself to see what's the differance between a metablob and a hyperblob

V9 is suppose to have something called hyperblob tech

I have already have metablob in all my Vue versions. Why would I wan't a hyperblob

What's the differance?

I looked at Geek at play for V9 Tuts on Hyperblob but I don't see any. I only see a tut that has Metablob.

Hyperblobs are fun. The primary difference to Metablobs is that you utilize Hypertextures (the 3D volumetric materials) to drive the distribution of geometry. That allows for some very neat effects that are impossible with metablobs. For example, holes, tunnels, overhangs, porous rock etc. Above and in the following post are a couple of examples that show what can be done. No great art, just me playing around to see where the limits are...

It's great for rocks.

Yup, works great for rocks. Here is one of mine.

These look good.

Did you have to use"Bake object to polygon" to get the displacement mat to apply to the exterior that nice.

If I recall before V9 there was some artifacts when applying some disaplacement mats to a metablob. The problem (If I recall) could be minumized by the "Bake object to polygon"  feature and reapplying the displacement mat.

However there's no "Bake object to polygon" feature in Vue 8.4 Complete so I've kept a V6 Infinate active just incase I need that feature.

No, hyperblobs cannot be baked to geometry. However, you can apply displacement textures to them. One needs to be a bit careful and adjust quality boost and smoothing, but it works nicely. The rock in my last post has some displacement applied to the hyperblob.

Well this looks like another fun thing in Vue for me to look forward to.

Can't wait, yet I must wait. It is mid November now. Hope I don't have to wait until Friday for release. I would like a release today then wait 3 days for e-on server recover to allow me download then actually be able to download on Thurday or Friday to enjoy using for the weekend

Actually For today I would just be happy to know what feature V9 Complete will have. I was hoping that they would throw in an infinate feature or 2 such as rendering in seperate layers.

and Thanks for the link bruno021
