Subject: Another BVH question...

SeanMartin ( ) posted Fri, 31 December 2010 at 7:45 PM · edited Mon, 22 July 2024 at 3:13 PM

So I have this library of bvh files (the massive one on ShareCG), but when I try to apply one of the movements, the resulting animation has the character flying all over the place instead of standing still as he hands me a menu.

Anyone have any idea why my character mesh should take to the air like that? I tried locking the body on the animation palatte, but that didnt help at all. Is there something I'm missing?

Attached Link: BVH mixer

Assuming you're using the Carnegie Mellon set, I downloaded one of the ZIPs (set 13) and took a quick look at some of the BVH files.  The problem is immediately obvious, in this set anyway.  The initial value of Hip Ytran is 18!

Try locking the Hip.  Or try my old BVH Mixer python, which lets you deselect and/or scale the action for each body part as it reads the BVH.

Later thought: in the animation keygraph you can set individual parameters to Static.  If you set only the hip Ytran (not the entire Hip) to Static before loading, the problem may disappear.

Thanks, I'll give all that a try. I dont know how to read the coding on some of this stuff, so it's nice to see folks like you that can help. And I learn something in the process!

Uhhh no it wont
locking the hip at a certain value wont resolve this problem
as the Y-trans value varies during an animation unless it is a motion of someone completely
immobile from the waist down

now  Did you get the so called "Daz" Friendly versions of the files
Not that it matters much  I just Downloaded and tested some the  Carnegie mellon BVH Files
those CM BVh Files are a Disaster!!
not worth trying to repair them IMHO

I'll try those as well. Thanks, both of you.

This is the CM set corrected to work with DAZ characters.  So far all the BVH's applied in poser (to M4, M3, H4, H3, V4, A3) have worked well.

Just tried applying the DAZ-friendly versions to a non-DAZ character, and it works pretty well! Thanks for the links, guys!
