What am I missing? Why can I not get a clear-as-glass reflection? I am using Poser 8 on Windows. And I have read a tutorial, and now I come here for help. Why is it this muddy and a low contrast image? If I change the color of the square black, then all I get is a black image; if I use white, then all I get is a white image. Help!

Because you also have 100% diffuse (clear as clay) reflection. Set Diffuse_Value = 0

Also, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS disable Reflect_Lite_Mult and Reflect_Kd_Mult

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

First thing, get rid of Reflect_Lite_Mult and Reflect_Kd_Mult, which do nothing in this case, except slow down and degrade your render.  I don't know of any situation when they should be used but maybe there is one.

Next - and I don't know the best way to explain this - nothing in the real world is 100% diffuse colour, 100% transparent and 100% reflective.  You'll never get realistic (or even good) results with those settings.  As I understand it (which is, admittedly, not well) the transparency and reflection settings will be fighting with each other and also with the Diffuse setting.

Also, don't use Auto settings, they are by and large, crap.  Nobody needs 6 Raytrace bounces, for example.

I'm certain another person here can give a better explanation and an example or two but at least you have a start on things.
