I can't find the Poser 7 mac Gradient Mode.

the gradient bump channel is often used with normal maps, not gradients.  bill has posted the node set-up to generate a photoshop-style gradient.

Yes I'm trying to use a normal map in Poser 7.

then you gotta download or create some normal maps, but I dunno if they worked in poser 7.  they're like bump maps in that they use colours and they don't move the vertices at all.

I figured it out. I guess there is no Poser 7 mac Gradient Mode, but it worked.

yes, it may take a bum file, but it won't work in FFRender IIRC, whereas the normal maps work in FFRender (P8 and later).  there's some syntax problems between the use of the terms "channel", "mode" and "node".

oops, sorry for my earlier confusion. I see ya were referring to the mode channel. P7 didn't have it, and it could use bum files, and maybe normal maps, as P8 could use ddn (normal map) files which were plugged into the gradient bump channel, with the gradient bump mode selected.  apparently selecting the mode was redundant in P8, similar to the way the refract node worked in several channels other than the refract channel.
