Subject: How to animate a door.......Please?

blueblott ( ) posted Tue, 14 June 2011 at 6:59 AM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 10:04 PM

Hello,

I would like to animate a shed door!.......but dont know how to set about it.

I just wont to be able to open and close with a constraint to stop it becoming a revolving door.lol!

The final outcome to be able to select door in scene tab go to parameters where lo and behold an option has appeared with    "open and close".

Have tons of tutorials about DazStudio but not one that even shows how to open a simple box lid.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Do you have a model with an opening door, or are you wanting to create one?

Well, DS isn't a modeller so your options are limited. You could use a series of cubes, scaled to make walls, with three for the wall with the door and fourth for the door. Hide the dorr item, export as OBJ and make sure Ignore invisible nodes is on in options, then remove the primitives (except the door), import the OBJ and you have your shed and door. Now you can either create a null, position it where you want the hinge, and parent the door to it or you can use one of the free move origin scripts to change the pivot point of the door itself. To set your constraints, in DS3 double-click the Parameter slider, set Respect limits to On and set the limiting values you want; in DS4 click the little cog icon and select properties to get the same dialogue. You can use the settings dialogue to hide or lock parameters you don't want.

Hi Richard,

I followed your instructions as above and all went fine except when it came to apply limits....via the Parameters Settings.

Dont know what am doing wrong but my door wont stop going round LOL.

Tried numeric and percentage either way I seem to get it wrong.

So if you just wanted a door to open towards you what settings would you suggest I use for limits ?

Have been looking for a door script to do this but no luck so far.

Thanks for your help.

**Cheers.
