Subject: Help me? I really need a HUGE favor...

I am learning Blender... very slowly. I have actually opened the program 2 times now. Mostly I am reading the 1500+ page wiki manual. There is so much to learn. I may have gotten in a bit deap this time.

But to get to the point of my post. It will take me about 2 1/2 to 3 years before I can do anything remotely resembling work with it. So I need to put this to someone who already knows how to model, make props, etc.

I am trying to bring to life one of my childhood heroes (one I created). I have a costume designed for him now. It's mostly just a painted texture map. Can someone out there make the actual costume? I realizee what I am asking. I can compensate you somehow.

If you are willing to do it, I have enclosed a render of the painted texture. I am asking for a dynamic costume. I need it for animation, and conforming clothing is a little restricted in some poses.

If you are willing to give it a try, post a response here. I would really appreciate it. And I would find a way to compensate you.

The costume is based off Poser 7's Simon G2.

I have named him Green Lightning in the interim until I can figure out a better, more suitable name.

Two things I forgot to mention: I was thinking of giving him a belt, and possibly a cape. I see 15 people have viewed this, but no takers yet. sigh

Have you looked into the utilties on PhilC's page?  Seems like making a body suit would be pretty simple, and something you could do yourself.  The dynamic bits can't be too difficult.  Also, Cage has some python scripts that could probably be used to make a simple belt.  I don't know how Simon is mapped, but it looks like you have a good start on making textures anyway ...

Best of Luck,

Thanks for the information. I'll check it out. But the problem is most of this stuff beyond posing and animating is above my head. I still have to learn so much of it.

Oh yeah, and I have an agreement with my wife that I won't purchase anything else other than the program. She's got it in her head that if I can't make money with it, I shouldn't be buying it.

Hey, the most recent scripts in Cage's threads are here:

http://www.the.cage.page.phantom3d.net/TDMT_Match/other_scripts/various.html

This will allow you download the most recent goods.  The thread is helpful to explain what all of his fine scripts do.  There are some very, VERY, useful goodies there and they are all FREE.

Just seems like learning Blender, a fine and lofty goal, might not be required to complete your costume.  I, as you say, lack skills beyond posing.

Good Luck,
R

Since it's a skintight costume, what's wrong with using a painted texture and displacement?  It will be lighter on resources (no extra mesh) and you'll never have poke through.

Little things that bother me: nipples, toes where boots should be, fingernails where there should be gloves. The ears sticking out... Beyond that, the texture map that I did above looks pretty cool with some camera angle trickery. I would rather have the prop costume, really.

Nipples and fingernails should be fixable with morphs (existing)  There is a no-ears morph for M4 (I think) in freestuff   There were a lot of superhero stuff at animotions, and some at sharecg.

The figure above is SimonG2, yes?

A SamT said, i would also go for texture + Displacement map.
look here if you want details in the suit and a similar second skin setup.

Ahhhh I am just like the disgruntled person in that thread. Nodes and displacement and all that is above me. And I still don't like toes, belly buttons and nipples showing even though they are painted over. It's too much like those Sports Illustrated models and their body paint. Technically, they are still nude.

By the way, once I download these things, where do I install them? I am getting into an area I am not familiar with here....

Technically, it's only a mesh. :)

As others have noted, morphs get rid of nipples, navels and nails.

Yeah, I know. Let me experiment with it. I know I can get rid of nipples, navels and nails. But how to get rid of the toes is the real problem. There are no boots for SimonG2. And the shoes he has don't look good enough with my textures.

So I guess if I am going to be fussy, I better get crackin' on that Blender thing. Maps and displacement aren't going to give me the result I am looking for.

Is there something wrong with [ MatrixWorkz Dynamic Super Suits for G2 Males](http://www.sharecg.com/v/45846/view/11/Poser/Dynamic-Super-Suits-for-Poser-Males-*UPDATE-2011*)? They don't include gloves but you can find G2 gloves at [PoserWorld](http://poserworld.com/Downloads/G2.Male/9277/Fantasy.Suit.aspx) I'm sure!

If I have to purchase it, it's out. I can't buy anything. Made a promise to the wife. See above posts...

Ooops. Should have checked the link before I posted. I am downloading it now to check it out.

Thank you!

In other news, here is an update to the second skin I started with. I am getting some interesting results playing with nodes in the material room. Too bad I have no idea what I am doing. But it is fun to figure out what each node actually does.

I couldn't get it to work right. The legs didn't drape, and there were other issues. Oh well, back to the drawing board...

The scripts go into the Poser Runtime Python poserscripts folder.  Cage has earned his own directory on my system.  Then, you can either run them from the File menu in Poser, or edit the mainButtons.py file and include the scripts that way.  That takes a bit of doing, but if you make a back up copy of the file and give it a whirl I'm sure you can make it work.  Just use Notepad to edit the file.  You will see how it's set up.

Like I said, make a back up first and give it a look over.  It is all about path statements.

I bet you could manage boots.  You would have to 'Poserize' the end model result and give it joint parameters.  There's a bit more to making a Poser figure than the modeling.  More here will attest to that.

PS: the above python notes apply to Poser 7.  Not sure if they've changed things with P8 or not.

Thanks to SteveJax, I solved the boot problem. I wasn't too keen on the rest of the outfit, but I got some workable boots out of the deal.

I am working on the rest of the texture map now. If someone can show me a tutorial on how to morph out the nipples and naval, I will be on my way.

Oh, and I am still looking at using displacement, but since his suit covers 98% of his body, do I really need to displace it to make it look real?

All of the G2 figures share the same body mesh so G2 James, G2 Simon, G2 Koji & G2 Kelvin can all wear the same clothing.

You have to uncheck the box that says Start From Zero Pose and you must apply the starting pose in the pose directory to your figure at frame 1. The starting pose will put the legs in the correct starting position for it to follow. Also, if you have Poser 8 with PhilC's Wardrobe Wizard you can convert it to conforming which may work better for you.

I figured that out, but after I rendered it, I decided I didn't really like the overall look, and went back to working on my second skin. Any idea how to morph out fingernails, navals and nipples?

Here is my final result without morphing out the nipples, naval, fingernails, and ears. I am pretty happy with how this suit looks.

Any suggestions on what I could do better, or a link to a tutorial so I can start on the morphs? The manuals aren't that great...

Which version of Poser are you using? I'm not very good with Poser 8 or Poser Pro 2010's morph brush but I would think you could use it to smooth out nipples and nails.

rokket ( ) posted Sat, 06 August 2011 at 6:50 PM

I am using Poser 8. I tried to use the morph brush before and couldn't seem to get it to do what I wanted it to do (remove a naval). If that's the only way to do it, I may be in trouble. I'll have to practice at it, I guess, until I figure it out.
