Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 02 3:16 pm)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Dumbest Python question of the year PP2012-Mac

grichter ( ) posted Mon, 26 September 2011 at 9:01 PM · edited Sat, 07 December 2024 at 10:03 PM

I have some scripts I made myself for personal use and or freebee's and or other non compiled scripts that either use a widget and do a print with a status of what it effected in a given scene so I can review it. The python window that I am printing to is staying open and can be dismissed with a mouse. Don't think destroy is what I want to consider. But is this a command or some other such python word that I should go look up? If you know what it is I will do the research. Granted it could be a bug in PP2012 Mac also. You think it would let me close the window like I was able to in P7,  P8 or PP2010, but it doesn't

TIA

In P7 the window thats open for print statements stays open until you click the close button , then it goes away. If its not doing that I would report  a bug.

Thanks. and no I can't dismiss with the close button like I could before in PP2010

Are you saying that if you run the script:-

################

print "Hello World"

################

that the text output window will open, with the text "Hello World", but you are unable to close the output window by clicking the "X" or equivalent on a Mac?

Because I can on mine.

Can you give an example of your script?
Do you have a loop still in progress?
A "while i < number:" but forgetting to increment i ?

It doesn't happen on all scripts. Let me chase down the ones that do it. Right now I have to finish up a scene for a project. It might be 24 hours before I can trace it down

I have tried and tried to find the issue with various scripts (open loop), and it seems to occur if I accidently run a script that needs to be recompiled and it throws up the error message about magic numbers. But the window can be dismissed when the error message shows up. It jumps up and can't be dismissed for the next script run. That is what appears to be happening, but still messing around. But I felt I owed a prgress report to those that chimed in.
