Creating the Ring Object:

Select the Torus from the Create Menu:
To make it into a ring like structure, follow these settings as seen in the image 1. Experiment.

Image 2 shows the adjustment to the torus to make it into a "ring".

Set the inner diameter of the torus to between 200 and 100

Image 3 shows the setting for the cylinder (the engraving object)

Creating the Engraving Object

Select the Cylinder form the Create Menu:
To make it into an engraving object, follow these settings as seen in the image 3. Adjust to fix in the torus.

Now select both the torus and the cylinder and combine them.

Image 4 shows the DTE setting for the mat for the cylinder

Select the cylinder on the main stage, click on the small "M" to go to the mat editor. Place a button in the diffuse setting. Click on the P button to go into the DTE for the image texture editor. See the image 4 for the settings.
Go here for the image and save the image (in the first post) to your desktop.

Image 5 shows the gold mat used for both the torus and the cylinder

When finished, click OK and exit the editor.

Select the torus and enter the Mat editor by clicking on the "M" . Bring up the Material collections and look for Metal. See image 5 for further details.

After you finish matting the ring, do a test render to see how it looks. You might have to tweak it a bit to get it to look just right for yourself... Here's a sample of what it might look like for me. Larger view is in my gallery.

LOL...I knew there would be a catch somewhere...hidden shaders and stuff...j/k, I'm sure noobies would have no trouble getting into the know in minimal time. Anyway, nice, concise and to the point mini tut on the ring.
