Subject: Halloween Grab Bag & Credit Card "Lockout"

HeavyRay ( ) posted Tue, 01 November 2011 at 1:26 PM · edited Sun, 21 July 2024 at 4:14 AM

Despite reading several NEGATIVE posts about the grab bag items not suiting their interests, I was very PLEASED with the freebies and THANK YOU for that campaign.  I DID feel a tinge of guilt as I broke-up my pre-existing order into $5 chunks to qualify for more loot, but I eventually got over it...   ;-)

In the process on making several $5 purchases in succession with the same credit card however, my credit card company DID put a flag on the account, since they suspected fraudulent usage.  I called the company and verified the charges, and was told that the hold was removed.  I (re)attempted my cart purchase and received the same 'Verisign error #11' error!  Another call to the card company, and was told that the card was 'good to go' - no holds/flags/etc.  Another cart attempt - same result!  I waited three hours and tried this on a different computer, and again, no-go!!!!

In their 'spare time', perhaps someone who oversees the marketplace, especially someone experienced with the credit card payment process, could look at the business logic used to check a customer's card??? It seems like once an account is 'flagged' by Rendo, that bit is never reset....

Thanks again for the Halloween grab bag items!

Ray

Are you sure it's a code "11" that you are getting? An error code 11 means a "client time out" error so I'm not sure if that is the one you are actually getting?

We do not "lock" out or "flag" customers cards.

Thanks

Stacey

If you have to make several small purchases in quick succession, the best thing to do is to buy a GC, and then use that.

The CC processors and/or the issuers are the ones who flag cards.
Low values transactions are often used by fraudsters to test whether a set of card details is viable.

Perhaps I was mistaken in the exact error code - I should have copied/pasted the error string when it happened, vice trusting memory!  As an experiment, I just made a purchase with the card and it worked-out well...

nruddock - I realize that it was VISA (not Rendo) who flagged the card.  It seemed though that despite the verbal assurance from VISA that all flags/holds were removed, Rendo still seemed to balk at allowing the purchase.  From MY standpoint, I thought perhaps Rendo set a 'cookie' on my system, or perhaps something else was still 'set', even though the hold was removed.  Oh well...  just thought I'd mention it to Stacey, as a possible "...you might want to check..."  item.   And your idea about using a Gift Cert is a good one.  I'll probably go that route next time....

You would think that one transcation would be enough to verify that?
