Subject: need a little basic help

rubicon2008 ( ) posted Sun, 08 January 2012 at 3:36 PM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 1:14 AM

I'm new to Daz 4 and am slowly learning how to operate the software. I write children's songs and stories and purchased See the Sun from 1971s. There was no information concerning where to actually put the purchased folders, so I simply put it in Daz Studio where the content is stored. I wanted to use the surfaces from the package, and was able to File - import the obj. file and got the ship but with just the smooth shiny skin. I 'somehow' imported mat file from the purchased libraries under Pose and I suddenly got the ship with the textures/surfaces applied. This is what I wanted.

But now I open a new document in Daz and try the same thing (file - import) and nothing, an empty screen. It says it loaded it, but nothing. Also the file in the Material folder, but nothing. How did I get this to happen once before? Have I changed a preset by accident?

first i need the link to the item you got...as ive never heard of it.

is it a poser item--ie a runtime format file?

or a DS item?

either way you should not have to import the obj..

in either characters or props you should find it listed and load from there..

if it has mat poses to apply textures you will find them in the pose file..

if its a runtime folder and you put it in ds content.

then you have to add it to your content directory as a poser format file..or it won't show up

also if it has poser materials , and not mat poses they don't work in DS..

you would have to subsitute ds shaders...

more info needed to help you for sure.

ok found the item in question........it is a poser format item..

read me has the items listed here

..Runtime          Libraries                Character                      SeeTheSunSeeTheSun.cr2                                 SeeTheSun.png
..Runtime          libraries                materials                       SeeTheSun                                 MAT modelsSeeTheSun.mc6                                             SeeTheSun.png

..Runtime           Libraries                   Pose                        SeeTheSun                                 MAT modelsSeeTheSun.pz2                                             SeeTheSun.png

so if you point ds to the runtime as a poser format file

you will find the item to load in characters as above and the mat poses in the pose folder as above.........the materials will not work in ds..

Thanks so much for your help.  How do I 'point' ds to the funtime as a poser format file? I really appreciate your help.

Hey, thanks so much. I tried it, imported from character to get the unmatted ship, then went into the pose folder and imported the mat and it worked!

Now, how about a Bryce package. Is it possible to do the same thing? I have the Bryce package Celestial Traveler by 1971s.

Also, while I have you to help, I went into a daz site that offered Bryce 7 as a free download to try out. However, when I went to open Bryce after downloading, it asked for name and serial number. What a waste of time. I remember buying Bryce 6 for under $75. Now, it's very expensive?

I have a cat as well who runs our household. As well 2 grandkids! Keep things 'secure'!
