Which forum did you see this?  I went on Daz and prices were regular.  No free software.

I don't trust facebook posts because of possible viruses scams.  If you direct me to the forum, not facebook I will click on your link.  Scams direct you to a page that looks legit and woe to you if you bite.

Gosh! Hope I didn't ruffle anyones feathers.  Didn't mean to.  The total value of the packages raised a warning flag to me especially when I went to Daz site and there was nothing visible about the free items.  yet when I clicked on 3Doutlaws link the free page came up.

I have since downloaded Studio Pro, checked it with Norton and am enjoying it.  Thank you for the heads up 3Doutlaw.

Please accept my apologies if I offended anyone

TheHalfdragon ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2012 at 9:06 PM

DAZ has a presence on facebook.  They frequent that site more often than their own.

Betcha Daz5 is in the works. Daz4 was the worse upgrade they ever made. I had requested my money back shortly after purchase.

DS3 was their Windows XP

DS4 was their Vista

Maybe DS5 will be their Windows 7 but DS4 lifecycle can't be over and DS5 if it's planned is probably a year away at the very least.

In the mean time they're giving away Bryce Pro, DS4 Pro, Hexagon 2.5 & Bridge and that would normally go for about $1200.00 US, now it's free until the end of the momth so get you some!

nobodyinparticular ( ) posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 12:50 PM

I'm guessing sales of Genesis products have been less than spectacular. Probably sales of DS4 Pro. Giving more people exposure to Genesis might be a good business move. I had the free version of Daz, but hadn't looked at it. This made me look. Earned Daz a sale of Genesis products. Daz might in fact be fighting for survival. DS5 might be a moot point.

"I had the free version of Daz, but hadn't looked at it."  Still will be the case with most noobs  that are looking for the thrills of a free download. Whoopdee!

I'm gonna ask for my $400 back.

3doutlaw ( ) posted Tue, 07 February 2012 at 9:24 PM

...again with the negativity, and in the Daz Forums?

I switched to Poser when Genesis came out, but to be honest, I am so tired of people on "this side" complaining and whining, I am ready to spend my time back there.  (and use both DS and Poser, since I think they both have cool features in their own way)

Out.

Ok.... enough with the Daz Bashing folks.

I've downloaded the DAZ 4 Pro files , but , and it could be me being very stupid, I cannot see how to install them. The only executable files appear to be the addons and in Windows XP right clicking on the DAZ Studio 4 file doesn't give the option to expand the file.

Can anyone help?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Wed, 08 February 2012 at 1:56 PM

It may have lost the extension, that's happened to several people. Just edit the name, typing .exe as the end, and OK it when Windows asks if you are sure.

madmitch ( ) posted Thu, 09 February 2012 at 6:24 AM

I have added  .exe to the file and have got it installed. Many thanks.

I encountered a couple of small problems during installation, described below, in case anybody else encounters the same.

  • At the start of the installation, a dialog box appeared saying that the installer had encountered a problem, and giving me the option of sending a report, which if actioned, closed the installer. However, it can be moved to one side, the underlying installation dialog is still active and the installation can be completed.
  • The installed program was the standard DS4 and required the serial number, sent separately by e-mail, to release the PRO plugins. It took me a bit of time to find that this could be done under the registration tab in the Help menu.

Yeah, mine d/l'd with no extension - added .exe to it and all was good - installed and working fine. Now All I have to do is figure out how to use it! LOL

These links may help. The first is to a series of video tutorials, the other to a draft manual for DS4 which is far from complete.
