I guess sometimes photography requires you to be a contortionist. Very funny stuff, Kort, thanks for sharing...

Wonderful shots, Kort. My training was in drawing & painting, and I never knew contortions until I started to learn the camera.

This is more serious (below), but it's a famous shot. I believe it's James Nachtwey.

Oh, man....... This is just nuts!

I have a passion for photography - but I have a serious aversion to bullets whizzing around my head...

Yes Rod, it's nuts. But I thought a picture of those rare photographers who seek the most extreme situations on earth would be an interesting contrast. I in no way want to treat war lightly by posting this, I just want to show what some photographers are driven to capture. They must truly be driven...

But as a photographer of long standing & experience, maybe you've seen some of the National Geographic specials on photography: You'll see their photographers covered in insects, stalked by snakes & falling into swamps just to get maybe 10 great shots of beautiful animals in the rain forest. Amazing what they go through...

In the film from which the above war-photo was taken, you see a bullet rush through James Nachtwey's hair while he's setting up his camera. (He's fine afterwards.) But his editors see it & nearly have a heart attack! You realize why those photographers get Pulitzers. I have a hard enough time with 'wind chills'. I can't imagine doing what Nachtwey does...

I've seen some of those NG specials, indeed - it never ceases to amaze me the lengths those photogs go to - but then I guess that's why NatGeo is renowned for thier photography.

I haven't see that film, but having a bullet whiz through my hair (if I had any hair, that is :-D) would be enough to..... Well, let's just say I'd need to change underwear ASAP!

I know these photographers have a level of dedication that is nothing short of amazing! And it really does provide a fascinating contrast.

I'm with you on the wind chills, but I guess we don't have to worry about that for a few months...;-)

Putting yourself in harms way for the benefit of journalism is commendable for those who are willing.  We all benefit in some ways from the fact they are there doing that job.

Bending over backwards for a photo literally when bending is not needed in the middle of a peaceful scene...well, maybe it "feels" like the way a photog is supposed to do and feels like a better shot. : ) The low to the ground stuff I do a lot of...often the best pov for me and often renders a fine photo more than the "standard" height.  With one foot that acts up now and then, I sometimes fall the last several inches into position.   Hummm, I had not considered knee pads!

Thanks Kort, this is neat stuff.

I don't mind the getting low-down part for a good photo - it's getting back up that's rough! LOL

I got down into a 'prone' position a couple vacations ago to get a shot of a dragonfly - I'm sure people were watching and giggling.... I got the shot, though! Just glad my wife didn't do her usual trick of photographing me doing so!
