Subject: Need help with poser setup for conforming clothing

relaxis ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2012 at 1:50 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 4:19 PM

Hi all,

I exported the Ryan model into zbrush and created mesh extractions which I then exported seperately to make clothes.

My problem is that after I scale the torso part of the catsuit and autogroup it to ryan, i then go into the setup room and import ryan's skeleton to geometries. It worked fine before for the neck and face scarf I made before but for some reason, the torso part of the suit won't properly conform to Ryan, the cuffs are out, forearm sleeves bent in and all the time i spent aligning and scaling the damn thing to the model is wasted. Help!

If your clothing OBJ has any scaling, translation, rotation you'll need to export out the model, delete whats in the scene then import the saved version. This will bake in any modifications used to make the clothing fit the figure. The clothing must fit the fully zeroed figure without the need for and scaling, translation, rotation etc.

Then after you have applied the rigging:-

  1. select the clothing.

  2. fully zero the figure.

  3. Edit > Memorize > Figure

  4. save figure.

This will eliminate any preset bends in the imported skeleton that if left in there will also throw your conformation off.

Hope that helps.

Hey,

managed to get your steps to work, the problem is that now I get tears like this - how do I fix this? - img - http://www.picfront.org/d/8DIY

There are a couple of things that may be coming into play in that picture. One means you need to use the Morphing Tool to make some Joint Control Morphs to fix the tears and the other means that you need to use the Joint Editor and adjust the inerMatSphere. If these two things don’t sound familiar, let us know and I’m sure someone around here can point you in the right direction. I'm not a real pro at this, so there are others that may have a better answer.

This tutorial may help. The actual answer to your question I believe is in part 2 of the video but best start at the beginning.

Nice one Phil. I wish I had seen it three months ago. It would have saved me a lot of hair pulling.

I realised that when i sculpted the clothes in zbrush i sculpted them from a non-zeroed export of ryan. Whoops. Back to the drawing board!
