Subject: Michael 5 Discussion

kittystavern ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2012 at 12:16 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 6:18 PM

Hi all!

We are a few weeks out from the release of Michael 5 so I thought now might be a good time to start a discussion on him.

So, I hoping to start this thread as a place to share:

  • Overall Opinions
  • Tips and Tricks
  • Problems You're Encountering
  • Products You Would Like to See

Please feel free to discuss anything relating to Michael 5 in this thread, as long as it's within the site's TOS of course!

The only thing I would ask is that you please keep things upbeat, constructive, and respectful :-)

Ok, to start off, I have only had Michael 5 for about a week or so and here are my overall thoughts on things:

Shaping and Bending - Overall seems to have turned out rather well from what I have seen.  He definitely moves nicely when posing in my experience thus far.  I have not had much of a chance to mix him with other shapes yet, but am looking forward to experimenting as I see shape mixing as one of the biggest benefits of the Genesis figure platform.

Textures and MAT files -  I am very impressed by the quality of his texture maps.  All the fine details and options are very nicely done in my opinion.

Supporting Products - I appreciated having both everyday casual and fantasy clothing available for him upon release.  And a variety of hair models, too.  I love hair!  I would, however, like to see more masculine poses be available though it is possible I have missed some.  Fewer male model type poses and more poses based on more regular men doing things men do.

So what are other's thoughts and experiences?
Are you pleased with M5 and the content provided for him thus far?  If so, anything in particular you love about him?  If not, is there something that you think could have made M5 or his release better?
What kind of support products (clothing, hair, poses, etc) would you like to see for your renders?
Have you had success mixing him with other Genesis shapes (V5, V4, M4, M3, BasicChild, Creature Morphs, etc)?
Have you had success fitting previous generation clothing to him?
Are there any problems that you have encountered with him that you can't seem to fix?
Any tips for new or veteran users about lighting, posing, shape mixing, or anything else since you've been working with him?

I'm sure there are lots of things I have not thought of so please feel free to discuss whatever you would like concerning Michael 5!

I'm shure there'll be a lot of "staff" and "member" pics. But you'll need the pro version for that.

I really like M5, even better than V5. His shape is great, great bone structure too. What i would have liked better is the m5 elite hair. The v5 elite ponytail is much more realistic than the m5 elite hair. But who knows what will be available in future products.

In the mean time i made a new texture lol, click on it to see all the details

oooh nice! I wish though that some one would make a plain clean male and female texture so I can add my own body hair and such to them and not deal with a face that has been shaved (male) or makeup (female)

**you basically want a texture resource then?

I have this one for V5

That's a good texture.

Thank you, the vic5 texture is 360 degrees of photos, not painted at all on the face texture. I am now creating the body texture all done in Deep Paint 3D's projection mapping, so no stretching or wrong pores.

You may want to see my gallery, there are more pictures of this texture.

MC3D ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2012 at 9:02 AM

Wallace,

I dont sell anything yet, but if you tell me what you want in a resource for m4 or 5 then go ahead and ill see what i can come up with:)

wallace3d ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2012 at 8:26 PM

Basically I want to beable to add all hair including eye brows myself. so no body or facial hair. not even the shaved face look (black stubble) And since I just purchased M5 I would rather have it for him than M4 :)

also 4 shades of skin to add culture (i dont know what is PC)

pink skin Requesting this
yellow skin
Light Brown
Dark Brown

and 3 age groups

Young 20 - 30 requesting this

Not so young 30 - 50

Old 50 - 70

I am sure ALOT of people would LOVE to have something like this too

MC3D ( ) posted Fri, 25 May 2012 at 1:18 AM

Maybe a young freckled one with and without eyebrows?

wallace3d ( ) posted Fri, 25 May 2012 at 11:21 AM

yeah being stuck with one type of eyebrow makes all the characters look the same no matter how much you change the shape. so creating my own will allow a more unique look

After my migration ill see what i can come up with :)

I prefer him to M4, but some of textures react strangely with my NIK filters.

So far, I've only done one render with M5 as the subject; but, I like the results I've seen.  To date, I can get some pretty realistic shots with anything on the Genesis platform; but all the M4 for Genesis stuff I've done looks like something from a graphic novel rather than being close to photo-real.  What I have noticed so far is that M5 poses very smoothly, takes M4 textures like a pro, and dresses as easily as any other Genesis character.  Hopefully I can link the render I've done so far to give an idea of what I've done with him so far.

Pic's too big to upload to the forum, so here's the link to the shot in my gallery.

Another great render. I've noted before that black & white images can seem a little bit more real than colour ones, and this one is very realistic. It must have taken a bit of work to get that expression, too.

This is my first proper go with Michael 5 (although there is a bit of Michael 4 and Gen X imported morphs in him).

Click for bigger, of course.
