I managed to download the Release Candidate before the site went down. Now, you might have to wait until the site is fully back up again before you can download it.
As for putting the new version on a different drive, you are being cautioned not even to put the new version on the same computer as any other version.
Yes, I currently use the same content for 3 & 4 in DS 4Pro as well, but I think the process might be a bit different with this newest 4.5 version. Not nearly as simple, but until I hear some clear directions, I don't dare installing it.
I'm not sure what you mean - the only content that changes is the basic stuff (Genesis and the included clothes, which are now in .duf instead of .dsf in the People folder). If you go back to the release version, which will be a fiddle and will mean losing your settings, you will get the original versions of the files back. other items will not be removed and so will work as usual*, though you should be aware that .daz files (and the .dso and so on files in the data folder) will not be backward comatible if you save scenes that way - using .duf scene files, however, although those won't open in DS 4.0 they won't break your existing .daz files. Note that some content will give a Duplicate IDs error. This isn't fatal, and I do have a script that will fix it, in most cases, when I geta round to uploading it.

Maybe I am making it more complicated than it needs to be. Seems to me I read somewhere we should uninstall "the original Daz 4 content and replace it with the new 4.5 content." I would have no idea how to separate the "original" content from all the stuff I've installed since Genesis was first introduced. I.e. I am sure I could figure it out, but it seems like a lot of work.
So are you saying that when we install the new Release Candidate, its content will just merge with the existing My Library?
Quote - Ah, right - there's an uninstaller for the base content in Start>All Programs>DAZ 3D>DAZStudio4>Installed DS Content, though I thought it was removed automatically - certainly the DSF version have gone from my system.
So if I understand you correctly, there's basically nothing we need to do - whatever interaction that is necessary between the old file system/format & the new, it'll happen automatically during the install process? And we don't need to worry about changing anything in the Content Directory Manager > Current Directories because My Library will remain in tact (other than change of file extension)?
that's right mari-anne it's an auto uninstall and reinstall for any update to any version of daz it seems complicated but really they managed to take the thinking out of it. the worst you may have to think about is " do you want to keep the mapped directories ?" but that if you have extra directories should always be a yes lol.

OK - thanks, that sounds easy enough.

I posted this question in the D|S forum shortly before it was taken off the air so I never got a response, but I am very anxious to get some directions.
I understand that when you install Release Candidate 4.5, the old version will automatically be uninstalled. However, I assume version 4.0.3.47's My Library folder (& sub-folders) will remain in their current location.
So---my question is, how do you handle your old & new My Library folders? Do you add version 4.5 Library to your Current Directories in the Content Directory Manager window, and if so, should it be at the top or should the old version's My Library be at the top?
I am anxious to have my old content remain in tact but also be able to take advantage of the new features & content in the new version.
How did those of you who have already installed the new version handle your content?
