Subject: Reality Questions

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Sat, 02 June 2012 at 3:31 AM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 5:25 AM

Been looking to possibly invest in Reality for rendering. I currently use Daz|Studio 4 in combination with LuxMax via OBJ export, and, of course, Luxrender 1.0rc for rendering.

Before bypassing my current workflow situation, which could be more efficient, I would like to know some details regarding the Reality plugin everyone rendering with Lux/Daz  seems to be using.

Does Reality give access to Lux multi-layer material, so one could specify parameters there in, for example, creating a realistic skin material? I'm finding myself currently having to edit the output of Luxmax by hand to take advantage of some features offered in newer versions of Lux, particularly regarding material options of this nature.

In the end, how much control does Reality give the user in customizing material parameters?  I like some things available to me now, like how Luxmax allows me full control to specify things like volume integrator (multi/single) on export, absorbtion parameters for translucency, and adding control maps to glossy translucent materials.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

Hello.

Reality has one of the most complete material editor available for Lux. Skin settings are handled by the glossy material that in Reality unifies the Lux glossy and glossy translucent in one single, easy to edit, material. There is curently no support for the layered material, that will be introduced later. Neverthelss the level of realism for skin is very high, as you can see from several renders posted here and in the deviantArt gallery. See, for example, this image by Hellboy, http://fav.me/d45qzpy. Also this other render made by me: http://fav.me/d3bf4mj . Finally, the classic 3d head scan, again, rendered via Reality: http://fav.me/d4ts3ln

Reality is designed with ease of use in mind. It gives you access to most Lux parameters but it also mediates the "gory details" so that you can use water, for example, without having to specify the inside and outside volumes, they are handled automatically. You can get more information, if you want, by downloading the Reality User's Guide from my site: http://preta3d.com/reality-documentation

Lastly, Reality has a very affordable price and the i tegration with Studio makes it an excellent tool to speed up your workflow and access the power of Lux right inside Studio.

Thank you for your interest.

Thank you for your input and response.  Yes, I've seen those images, and they look great.  I currently run a deviant art group dedicated to Luxrender, and so many of the people who post to the group are creating incredible works through the Reality plugin to Lux, I had to check it out myself.  This way, I will be able to bypass sending my scene via obj to 3dsmax, and send it directly to Lux from within Studio.

I decided to purchase Reality, and will be making my purchase before the weekend is over.  Can't wait to take advantage of the new streamlined workflow.

Great, thank you. I hope you will find it useful. We have a great support thread here at Renderosity, in the Studio section, in case you need help while getting familiar with the program. Of course I remain available for all support needs.

Cheers.

I look forward to seeing your work with Luxrender. After viewing some of your gallery, I have to say, nice work. Personally, having used Vray before, if I could have continued using it I would have over luxrender, but the ease of setup via DS and reality doesn't make luxrender more attractive.

Welcome to the club, Maxx! Reality is great, as I'm sure you've figured by now. It's equally useful for just getting started with the power of Lux, as well as those already familiar with it, such as yourself. Basically it's a sort of Lux for dummies, as far as how easy it is compared to something like, oh, I don't know, BLENDER!
