Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 9:54 am)
The installer insists they should be installed where the poser executable is. I'm away from my PC atm but will try to post a s/s later

Ok, the installer checks for a poser.exe in the folder where you want to install the morph pack. I think it also checks for an installed V4.
Fooling the installer is easy: Just create a file with the name poser.exe (can be any file, make sure it has not another extension behind it) in the runtime where you want to install the morph pack (don't forget to initialize afterwards)
Thanks - I did wonder about doing that. I'll give it a go. I wasn't sure what with the W7/P9 security set up

I know but installing to users rather than program files seems to put DAZ into a flip ;)

DAZ installers for V4 and its addons are very old. There were never updated to comply with Windows Vista, Windows 7 or even PoserPro. Installing V4 into Program Files will bring you a lot of troubles.
I still have my Poser 5 installation. I never use P5 anymore, but I contains my main library and after every Poser update I added the P5 runtime as an external library. It has the big advantage that an old installer finds the P5 runtime and installs it there and I can use it from any version of Poser
I might install P8 again and do that - just install the DAZ figures there and add them. I created a text file with the name 'poser.exe' no other extension behind it. Placed it in the Poser 9 content Runtime. Daz wouldn't play. Gah!

You can always grab a copy of the actual poser.exe and drop it into your content folder if, for some reason, the fake file isn't working. Then delete it after you've installed your stuff.

I've managed to do the morphs (by keeping the nested DAZ folder) now am figuring out the V4 WM installation :)

Ack! I re-run P9 and loaded up V4 and morphs. Messages that the files can't be found. Will have another go tomorrow

Yes I know but alas DAZ doesn't. The installer tells me all's OK (and I extract to the proper Runtime) - anyway, I'm starting over with a reinstall of P9. I won't let DAZ beat me (even though its illogical where Poser's concerned)

Still messy head-desk-bang

Create a new folder for V4, M4 and their morphs. Choose the DAZ Studio install option instead of the Poser option. It installs the same files it just avoids the Poser.exe search. Point the installer to newly created folder. Point Poser to the folder and you should be good to go. I feel it is best to have DAZ's Gen 4 figures in their own folder as it is sometimes necessary to rerun the initialize bat files.
Thanks I'll give it a go. I feel such an idiot as I've been using Poser for years. Daz files always complicated to install. In previous versions of Windows/Poser I'm sure I created an external Runtime.

Fabulous! It worked. I now have a 'Daz People' folder on my external HDD for M4/V4 and morphs. Will do same re hair/clothes. Now to figure out the V4 WM thingy :) Thanks for all the help everyone - much appreciated!

Hi - I've successfully installed DAZ M4 and V4 bases (not without a bit of fiddling about as DAZ - as usual had created a nested Runtime within the Runtime in users/Poser 9 content. However, the morphs packages resolutely refuse to install either to there or to the P9 Runtime in x86 (I'm running W7 and am aware of the problem there).
Also I'd like to install the WM for V4 - it looks wonderful but not sure how to do it. I've only had P9 a few days, though I've been playing with Poser since P4 and still have P7 and P8.
Any advice and tips would be very much appreciated. God I feel like a n00b! lol
