Subject: Need to download Poser Pro 2012

imax24 ( ) posted Tue, 23 October 2012 at 12:09 PM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 9:02 AM

I own PP2012 on a physical disk, which for some reason is not being read by my computer any more. It might be an optical drive issue, though other disks read OK.

I need to re-install PP2012 from scratch and apply SR 3.1. As a registered owner, is there a way to download the main installer from SM?

Contact Support there and see what they say and what you can do...

Best suggestion...

Also, make sure you are using the right disk. I had the same problem because I was trying to reinstall pp2012 from the Mac disk. There are two disk and one is for the Mac and one is for the PC. They are very poorly maked, but it is there.

It was the correct disk.

I was able to get a free digital download by contacting SM through their web chat support. I had to provide my serial and order numbers.

Sorry to waste a thread, but maybe this will help someone else in the future.

You might need a new DVD burner/player. I have seen them for $15 and they are easy to install.

If it stopped working it could be an issue with a system update, or anti-virus software or firewall software blocking key files. Check for possible conflicts there too.

angle the disk (non label side) into the light and check for scratches, fingerprints etc. if you see anything, using a soft cloth ( old teeshirt material is perfect ) wipe the disk from the hole to the edge gently. go round the disk, but avoid creating a spiral.

last ditch rescue (and this really works) coat the nonlabel side in toothpaste and then gently polish the disk and rinse then pat dry with kitchen towel. I've done that many times to rescue disks...

If the disk has not been damaged, it is more than likely that your CD/DVD burner has died.  I've had this happen several times.

Do you have access to another system with a working CD/DVD to test the disk.

DiskInternals sell a CD/DVD recovery app.  The site is DiskInternals.com.

Unlike CL and EF, SMS does not have the option of purchasing a back up disk.  I wish they did.  I used to buy both the extended download and a back up disk just to be on the safe side.

Since you purchased a physical copy, they may give you a download link or they may require you to purchase their extended download option.  It gives you unlimited downloads for up to 2 years and costs less than $10 USD.

As I said, SM gave me a free download. (Though they said they don't ordinarily for purchasers of physical disks.)
