What I read years ago, before the making of the phantom menace, in an interview with George Lukas that he was planning to make nine films, three trilogies in total. IIRC, the last trilogie would be a serie around the adventures of Han Solo. But I wonder that will still be the planning, I would really be surprised if Harrison Ford would play him again. Perhaps a nice role for Johny Depp : Pirates of the Galaxy.
Best regards,
Bopper.

He he...
I'm actually not without hope that there could be some good from it.
If whoever Disney decide to take on to handle the project, creatively, is someone who can make something more than just a visual extravaganza... and get back to the characters and human chemistry that the original trilogy had...
...well, the Han Solo storyline is interesting. Harrison Ford is a big part of making Han Solo work as a character, I feel. But... I've no doubt there are plenty of very talented young actors, relatively undiscovered, like Ford was when he landed the Solo role, who could make the character of young Solo their own.
Depp is too big for the part, in my opinion... and too old now. Although I'm sure he could probably pull it off if he did take the role... I guess.
River Phoenix was looking like making a good younger Indiana Jones I thought... but again, he'd be too old for the part now, if he hadn't sadly died so young himself.
It definitely needs some new blood. But not some Mickey Mouse Club graduate... let's get that straight right off the bat
Oh hang on... Ryan Gosling... er. There are exceptions to every rule perhaps?

This is good news. It means there will be another Star Wars movie. Lucas wasn't willing to take on the effort and the risk at this point.
If it's a bomb, so what? The last trilogy wasn't exactly a jewel.

Lucas is 68. He waited too long between the trilogies for questionable results to be able to finish it himself.
Quote - Disney could have saved a lot of money by hiring some creative people and creating their own franchise, if there are any creative people at disney.... aside from the financial engineers.
Let's see, they get the profits of all future installments. All the merchandizing. The video game division. They get the profits from ILM.
And of course you've got Starwarsland which probably will happen. You know at least ten million people will pony up the 100-120 it takes to get in there and a lot will keep going back.
Here's the thing about new IPs, they are expensive and there's no guarantee it'll be a hit with fans. Why else do you see John Carter and Battleship being made? It's because people with that kind of money hate to risk it on new ideas.

I've watched a lot of interviews with Lucas. Originally, Lucas said he was going to make a total of nine Star Wars movies--the "first" triology about Annakin Skywalker and his descent into evil and end of the Republic, the second which was actually the first triology made, and a third about the post Empire new Republic. I think, given the age of the original actors, they'd do best to do a Star Wars, the Next Generation--perhaps about Leia's and Han's Solo's children and possibly Luke as a Jedi Master Guru.
Truth be told I loathe the "first" trilogy--Anakin was never a very sympathetic character even before he became corrupted. I think if someone besides Lucas could write the next trilogy it could be good, but it seems to me that he was struggling to come up with material during the prequel. Almost everything in it was begged, borrowed or stolen from Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars series to Ben Hurr. I have a pretty good suspension of disbelief when it comes to such things, but even I couldn't buy Luke and Leia's mother dieing of a broken heart after childbirth. . .
Quote - Pixar is mostly all CGI cartons.
ILM is mostly all realistic CGI.
Yes, but perhaps they will mix the two to get the main characters back from episodes 4, 5, and 6 for the new Star War 7 film. The original actors who played Luke, Han and Leia are too old to play those parts?!
Too old for the parts if you want them to look like they did when they finished the last movie they did. Have you seen Harrison Ford lately--no miracle of plastic surgery could take that many years off him. He was no spring chicken when he made the original film. They certainly are not too old to play older versions of the characters--that is if they agreed to do so--I think that Carrie Fisher has a love/hate relationship to the Princess Leia role and I think she would rather leave all that behind her and concentrate on her shock treatments and writing.
Welly, you could always cast new actors for the roles or you could pick up 100 years later.
The problem is how the expanded universe will play into this.

Anakin Solo dies in an extra-galatic alien invasion and Jacen turns to the dark side, killing Luke's wife in the process. Do you go that route or say screw it and invalidate everything that happens?

Frankly I'd prefer the reboot, but you might see a lot of angry fans because of it.
I'd also like to see other "universes" and not just focusing on the events in the one we've already seen.

I think I read somewhere that the storyline of Star Wars 7 involves Han inventing a time machine and going back in time to kill Jar-Jar-Binks! :p
star wars episode 1 1999
star wars episode 2 2002
star wars episode 3 2005
star wars episode 4 1977
star wars episode 5 1980
star wars episode 6 1983
star wars episode 7 2015
I doubt star wars episode 7 2015 will be what we exspect.

We get to go back to Tatooine again
There's another Death Star
There's a good, marketable plush toy creature for children featured prominently
More offensive stereotypical accents/creatures
More Belching and farting scenes, and people stepping on crap
20 minute scenes talking about Midi-Chorlians
Wooden actors delivering more embarassing dialogue
No wars whatsoever, only skirmishes
Villians with silly names.
Ah, those Midi-Chorlians...
I presume that's folk who live between the centre and the suburbs of the Lancashire town of Chorley??
You've got to watch you're back in Chorley, apparently... especially if carrying anything resembling a light sabre... or anything that could perhaps be mistaken for a samurai sword...

There is a game from 2003 called "Knights of the Old Republic"- great story-and characters. I remember thinking that it was better than Star Wars Episode I, II, and III.
It had what Episode IV, V, and VI had-a good story-and characters. There has long been fan interest in remaking-continuing the story.
There was a sequel game-with different characters (not as good). Instead Lucas gave us an MMO, and the story of Darth Vader's secret apprentice (Sam Witwer) which I thought was promising-even though the sequel was not very satisfying.). But again- good characters-and story.
It is my hope that Disney continues the original story of Knights of the Old Republic-and the tale of DV's secret apprentice
I've had the feeling for years-that Lucas was tired of Star Wars- hence the lack of Episode VII. So I am HOPING people who love the SW universe take over and bring us more games-and movies.
Eric, I blame EA for the travesty that SW:TOR was. I'm guessing they are the big reason bioware's founders exited the industry.

I heard one of the reasons it took so long 83 to 99 to make star wars episode 1 1999.
George's divorce cost a lot of money.
So for a long time he didn't have the $$$ to make star wars episode 1 1999.
Tangled coast 260 million to make.I'll never get why it cost so much to make.
I would think Disney has the $$$ to do just about anything they want.

Quote - ERM..... wrong thread?
Er, yeah... apologies. Ahem. That was ridiculously OT even by my usual standards I guess.
Back on topic, I note that Lucas is being retained by Disney as a creative consultant.
That could mean anything of course. But it could well mean he still ends up having substantial input into the new episodes, 7 and on, being touted?

> Quote - Let's not forgot from the original trilogy George Lucas was the writer and director on only the very first Star Wars film. Other people both helped write the screenplay and directed the other two films, Empire and Jedi. Which I was surprised to find out.
That's true. One of the strongest influences on the Star Wars trilogy was Gary Kurtz, one of the co-producers on the first two films. He was upset about Lucas's claims that audiences no longer cared about character and story. He parted ways with Lucas right before Jedi. It's probably one of the reasons why Ewoks showed up in the third film.
Kurtz wanted to end the Jedi with a much darker tone. He also pushed for the more mystical/spiritual elements in Star Wars, unlike Lucas who increasingly leaned toward the dark side of merchandising.

I dunno about that, if he just mentioned star wars and prequel, he'd probably get the investors he needed.
His public excuse is that he wanted film technology to advance more so he could tell the story he wanted. I kind of believe that, he as did become obsessed with the technoligical aspect. One of the reasons why he didn't direct empire was so he could stay behind and focus on the effects stuff.

Where did you see mentioned the divorce costing so much money not being able to make the prequels. As far as I know lucas could get any amount he wanted to make it
And what has Tangled to do with Lucas?
George Lucas is the second largest shareholder in Disney, so I will be surprised if he doesn't have anything to say about how the next Star Wars moves are made - especially if he is Creative Consultant.
Disney owns many movie production companies amongs others Marvel which released Avengers. I haven't seen any negative influence from Disney on that movie. So it might not be a bad move at all
ya I herd that they did not have the means to make 1,2,3 back in the day.
1998 Max & Lightwave was at version 2,3 something like that.
1 was made in 1999.so the CGI thing makes since.
I just said i herd ,it's all hear say.like the saying goes believe nothing you hear 1/2 way you see.
Think George got divorced in 83 you could google it.
But if Marcia Lucas got the gold mine & George got the shaft... in 1983.
How could he afford to make a movie.
just thinking out loud.
I guess my point was.
If they have 260 million to throw at tangled
then they have plenty of $$$ to throw at Starwars 7.

sick of R2D2 C3PO.!!!
Dont we know ENOUGH of how their stories end??
I would like to see some real "prequels"as in the character rich universe of "knights of the old Republic" Era.

instead of simply regurgitating the same stale old characters and "introduce them to a new generation" how about something new and fresh for All of us.

My thought exactly. The last two movies had their moments... well "emo" moments anyways. It can only go up from here, right?
.
it's a good fit. after episode 4 the show was tailored way way down to the little kiddies anyway. sure the "luke i'm your father" thing was cool but the rebel army was cute teddy bears. appearance for kids, some very lite content for very slightly older kids. if you ask me there's not much difference between star wars and a typical disney show except that there's a lot more scope in star wars.
i read that lucas said that he's passing the story on to a new generation, and that's a fantastic thing for the franchise too. after all, when a band is 20 years old, they just play retirement gigs for the next several decades. they fall out of current style, and will certainly not forge into new territory. star wars will become further immortalized with the passing of the torch, and more of a "folk tale" than a lucas arts tale.
thx 1138 was fantastic. i actually am lucky enough to own a copy i found used at a blockbuster of all places. really fantastic themes.
go that way really fast.
