Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 7:06 pm)
i dont understand .. what else do you make with maya ?
Making clothes is the same as making other 3d stuff and its not that diffrent from other things.
So before people realy can help some extra info might be handy about what you already know..
Chris
Hmmm. Alright. I know how to model vehicles and do not know how to model humans or their clothing. I never got the chance to learn that while I was in college. Hence why I use Poser for my human models. Problem is, I don't have clothing that will fit them correctly. :(
I just would like to know any tutorial that helps me understand how to use the Poser model in Maya to make the clothing.
Seriously, how hard have you looked? It took me all of 5 seconds to google "How to model clothing in Maya" and I came up with you tube videos on it, a written tutorial, images, workflow ideas....the works.
Try harder.
Also, as previously stated, the basic concepts of polygonal modeling are universal, you just need to know the tool you're using well enough to adapt tutorials for other programs. So if you find a tutorial on modeling clothing in Max, LightWave, Silo, Modo, whatever, the ideas are the same.

A short, one answer approach over at "The Area":

I could go on.
the principle is simple, mould a poly mesh around a figure, closely following the contours of the figure. If you are making dynamic clothing you can afford to be slightly less accurate and let the cloth stretch around the figure when you run the cloth simulation, remember a couple of points though, depending on what style of outfit you choose to make if it is dynamic , gravity comes into play when running the sim, so if for example you have a strapless top, you will need to add some constrains in the cloth room to stop it falling down the body.......youtube is full of some really good cloth making tutorials and as teyon said, the principle is pretty bog standard, if you are comfortable with the controls in maya, even a tutorial in Hexagon format will point the way. Trial and error, tears and triumph, the modelling way :)

Poser meshes are real high polycount.
To High for Maya.
For Maya use DAZ Studio Genesis meshes make sure you export SubD at 0.

Ok I know this shouldn't be in here but I know some people make clothing in other programs for Poser or use with Poser. I tried to post in Maya forum but well...not many threads in that forum. Anyway, does anyone know how to make clothing in Maya for Poser? This thread will most likely be moved and I will most likely get NO help cause hardly anyone using the Maya forum. I'm trying to make clothing for my girl models and tired of using that MorphCloth program.
The program totally makes the clothing lose its realism such as stretch marks. I need to make my own clothing I guess for this to work and would love for some tutorials on how to do it. If ANYONE uses Maya in this forum and willing to show me how they made their clothing by what tutorial or whatever, please let me know. I really want my models to look good. Right now the clothes on them look like crap cause of that program.
Thanks.
